Sid Meier's Civilization VII

Had every Civ game since 1992 on release
I first started Civ in 1992. It was my first year of University. I did not have a computer, but the campus had a computer lab with brand new 486's I think they ran at a whopping 66mz clock speed. I had to load 6 or 7 zip disks every time I wanted to play. Which was not too bad as computers did not have as much bloatware and civ was a simple program to load though MS-DOS

Now 32 years later after getting every iteration of civ. Including Colonization in the 1990s, which I loved, Alpha centari(yuk) and Beyond earth(also yuk),

This will be the first that I skip on launch(well technically I was a year late to civ 1 because last year of HS and no computer)

It's going to have to have extremely good, non bought and paid for Youtuber reviews and a whole package discount before I touch this thing. Which probably will be at least a year, or less if it fails hard.

It's sad I used to(and still am) be a huge fan. But design changes,.mechanic changes, endless DLCs just to get CORE mechanics, has left a sour taste in my mouth. And let's not get into Denovo Spyware.

Civ, what has become of you?

You picked the wrong game to walk the plank.

After all these years, the last nine being the worst. Civ VI was so poorly designed that they had to tear it town and rebuild it.

This latest revamp incorporates some of the best innovations that this series has ever seen.

Civ VII is a major turning point for this franchise. Given the restructuring of the game and improved mechanics, there's no way that anybody who plays this game will be able to go back to playing the previous one.

Beyond that, the rest of the games are too old.

This game is going to kill it in the Steam charts. A lot of people are going to be changing their minds in the coming months.

It's a chart-topper. And it won't fade out of the top twenty like other games do. It'll be a permanent fixture, 365 days per year.

Just like FC 25.

Thank you. So many years of listening to people praise AC and I finally found the other guy that doesn't think much of the overly purple pile

Also played every Civ game. Grew up in the 8-bit era.

Honestly? I don't care. The hype for new titles has gone a long time ago. Sure I can be excited every now and then, but I am over the point where I feel I absolutely have to play a certain game.

Gaming has changed dramatically since the 80's and 90's. The last 10 years have been increasingly worse for a variety of different reasons.

When I heard a new Civ came out, I already knew 2 things.
Been there, done that and this is gonna be AAA marketing... we ALL know what that means.

Not even excited for titles like GTA VI anymore. It's gonna be a watered down grindfest that got nothing to do with the originals. Ironically R* has become what they once mocked in their games.
I was there when San Andreas was released... those times are long gone. Never gonna get a game like that in times like these.

I still enjoy a good game. But the culture went from niche to mainstream. Inside I am still that nerd (that's what gamers were called back then) and my inner nerd gets satisfied by good stuff.
Predominately playing loads of older titles now.

If gaming doesn't go the way I want, I stick to my one rule: I have to have fun. Don't care for no hype. The glass has been half empty for years now.

Sorry for my rant.
Gonna boot up V now. Awesome game!

Right there with you. I do most of my gaming on the Quest 3 now. VR at least feels new and the games aren't $100.

Alpha Centauri is quite literally the greatest 4X game ever made. Yes, it is even better than MoO2. I remember trying to get a friend to play it for the first time and he refused because of it being ugly lol. I wish BE had been even 1/10th as fun as SMAC.

Thats a pretty bold claim that Civ7 will be better than all the last 6 games. We shall see.
I too have bought every Civ since they came out (though haven't kept them all) and remember playing it on my 386-33 PC. I was never a aficionado of the series, just enjoyed it when a new iteration came out. Equally interested (not excited) in playing the latest incarnation.

Civ 6 being flawed, yes... totally agree.

But how did they rebuild Civ 6? It still has districts... it still has most of the same mechanics it has had for years now, since the last expansion.

And if Civ VII is the 'rebuilding' of the civ series, let's be honest about a few things: no workers (and how tiles actually get improved now) could be a bad design change; settlement soft cap might be a boring/arbitrary design change; the way civs progress through eras could be wonky.

I like that Civ VII is looking to try new things... but the new things it's trying are not always looking great on paper thus far, for me.
I just want to know how the performance is.
its not an airport no need to announce your departure .

Same here. Played every single version of Civ from the start. I couldnt get into Civ 6. It was too much micro management at the city level. They had dialed back micromanagement in Civ 5 by doing away with the massive army stacks. I loved it. I still play Civ 5 nearly every day. Im nearing 5,000 hours on it. Now I see that they are making the micromanagement even worse in Civ 7 so this will be the first time I dont buy a Civ product. I hate city states and love barbarians. Mashing the barbs into city states is just another nail in the coffin. Cant fight change.
