Now there's a leader that the Americans might enjoy more than Tubman.

Do we know what an endevor is? I didn't see it on the official site dev diaries, was it in a gameplay video?

It's described in the newest dev diary, it's a diplomatic action that costs influence

And another non-leader.
Its especially sad as he is probably more important to the Americans than to the French.
How very astute of you. He can lead your American people then instead of the French.

He definitely was of more significance to American history than to French. The game does have more of an American bias to it, probably because of it being created there. There are numerous towns in America named for him.

I don't know, France has a lot of options, more so then America. Charlemagne, Two Napoleon Personas if you have a 2K account, and now Lafayette, you could probably make a flimsy argument for Machiavelli since we don't know if there will be a modern age Italy civ in the eventual future.

the Civ team might be full of Frenchies...

Well, you're right, in the sense that warmongers who want to play as America aren't going to get much joy from being led by Ben Franklin. So, you think it's going to make them happy to be forced to play as Lafayette, a (in their minds) cheese-eating surrender monkey, if they want to conquer the world? Sure, they could also go with Harriet Tubman, as she has some military perks. Great! They can play as the Frenchman or the black woman with a pistol on her hip who doesn't look afraid to use it.

It's even worse for them. The French Empire has way more direct militarily beneficial uniques than America does. If they want world conquest, they have to either play as France, or maybe do some economic and scientific development in order to build a military in the Modern that even France's uniques will not be able to match. It looks like best path for that would be to play as Confucius, with Han China to Ming China to America.

I'm beginning to think that it's possible that the devs are doing this on purpose, just to tweak the USA #1 nativist crowd.
I don’t have any issues with Tubman or Lafayette being added. Lafayette actually did a lot during the French Revolution, especially in the early stages. He supported a constitutional monarchy and was involved in drafting the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. He didn’t agree with the radicals, like the Jacobins, who wanted to overthrow the monarchy entirely. This moderate stance is what got him imprisoned later. Honestly, he did more in the French Revolution than in the American one—it’s just that pop culture focuses more on his American contributions.
