Will this game be the flop that ends frances games?
it kinda feels like they put out the same game and just change around mechanics from old games. It seems like its going to be a combination of the combat styles of 5 with the city style of 6? Their previous DLCs all seem to be cash grabs that i refused to buy. This seems like a cash grab just because i dont see anything new that wasnt in previous games.

Also the development of the game seems very fast. ~8 months to make a new game from announcement to release seems ambitious unless they are just re-making old games. Which is how most AAA games are flopping now.

Also starting at $70 and I get no discount if i owned previous games? not even madden is that bad at pricing. Screw that. They have no desire to bring in new people, just profit off those that already own the series.

Have you read about the new features? The most common complaint is it is too different from its predecessors.
While yes it's still "Civ" so some things are similar, if you don't see anything new you're honestly blind and should probably re-read or watch some of the informational videos. Also, you think they made the game in 8 months? They basically start the next Civ shortly after releasing the previous Civ.

He's talking about Frances games.

Wrong forum, wrong developer, wrong language, wrong game.

Of course it's going to be the game which ends the franchise.

Before Civ VIII is released :sans:

makes sense that the games never get any updates that are decent. gonna be a hard pass on this game.

I dont see those differences. I read the changes and It seems like its going to be a combination of the combat styles of 5 with the city style of 6. I am not a hard core fan of the game and i dont follow everything they do. im not shocked the die hard fans want the game to be the same it always has been. I honestly dont see how its a new game from their previous games. Hard pass.

New Civilization games will probably always sell. I don't think it will flop. But I will admit I'm worried about the woke direction they are slowly moving in.
"Will your empire stand the test of time."

a motto all previous civ games held dear and saw as a core principal.

Civ 7 breaks with that motto and I predict it will hurt their game and sales more than some people here think.

It will still sell enough to be profitable, it will just not meet expectations, which is enough for people to lose their jobs.

While obviously there is a lot we'll have to wait and see when the game releases, and the devs haven't been great at communication (ie giving Egypt to Songhai as it's "cultural through line" in age transition, when it was only meant as an example, and they provided the real through line with Egypt to Abbasid which while not fully historically accurate, makes a sense, but they neglected to go out of their way to clarify (to add onto that, claiming Civ isn't historically accurate is laughable, it never really has been. Aztecs in the Information Age, America in 4000 BCE, Gilgamesh being represented as a real leader, etc, so the "Civ NEEDS to be fully 100% accurate" is a dumb argument, historical authenticity is important sure but this is civilization, not EU IV)

This isn't going to be the end of the franchise, likely far from it, that being said we're in the really funny phase of "I hate the new civ, the old civ is better", which then repeats with every new release. But the fun thing about civ is just cause a new one comes out, the previous ones still exist, and simply making a carbon copy of the 1 civ game you like most is a really dumb thing to expect or ask for lmao. That being said everyone has their own tastes and preferences. If you don't like the direction of Civ 7, every other Civ game still exists

+1

Civkind is not a PC game , it will stand or fall on the number of younger console players who fancy a few hours to build a tiny empire

I want to buy a Civ game, alas it appears that will not be an option.

"the new civ game isn't like civ 4, wont play"

Then don't, civ 4 still exists. Everyone's got their own personal preferences, and there are enough civ games out there to meet them. If you don't like the direction of the new game don't buy it.

Claiming it will kill the franchise however is dumb. I agree on a lot of points for Civ 6. I think the terrain art style is ugly, I think it's too simplistic and by the late game, it becomes so samey there's no point, I feel it boils down to making very similar decisions over and over again, and I personally get more enjoyment out of 5. However concurrent players, the competitive multiplayer scene, youtube community etc is evidence enough that Civ 6 is successful, regardless of wide scale detraction, or even my personal preferences. Statistically Civ 6 is the most popular and most played 4x game, while I personally dislike the game, you can't really argue with simple numbers. Obviously we wont know until civ 7 releases, but realistically it'll probably go the same route. Will it be as huge as Civ 6 was money wise at launch, hard to say, Civ 6 was one of the most successful games at launch, it would be hard for any sequel regardless of what it is or offers to match that. That being said Civ has a bigger audience then it ever has had at any point during it's life span, lots of people are excited for the changes, or at least are willing to give them a try and it's quite clear that the devs are passionate.

Will the game be any good, we'll have to see, and we can argue day and night about hypothetical's and personal preferences, but will it be a financial success? Being one of the most anticipated sequels of the biggest 4x Game and Company in general is likely enough to make that answer a yes, and like previous Civ games, if people hate it, they'll change it (like how people hate religion and civ 6 and they completely redid it in Civ 7 to where it's arguably closer to Civ 5's religion). Or worst case scenario, you just choose to play the Civ game you do like, hell Civ 3 is even still available on steam, and has a fairly active multiplayer community
