City not connected to my trade network
I have bonus resources I'd love to allocate but because they come from a city not on my starting continent it seems there is nothing I can do. I get something like the above message when I try to allocate the resource.

Is there some way to extend my trade network to include this other continent city or am I doomed to never be able to allocate those resources to anywhere but the same continent as the home city?

You need to build a Fishing Quay on both the settlement that's not on your home continent, and a settlement that's in your home continent.

The full explanation to your question is not fully understood. The Quay is needed, but there are unspecified ranges that you must be within to be connected. It all goes back to a bad Ui and a useless Civilopedia

If that city is connected with roads to a city with a quay, then it will be connected to the trade network.

While the connection range for roads seems small to me, the connection range over sea actually starts at like 30 something tiles in antiquity and increases in each age. Personally, ive never had a problem connecting my cities over water.

FYI: Fishing quays often work best because they're cheap and you want the yeild bonus anyway, but you don't have to use a fishing quay. Shipyard and ports also work iirc.

This road-to-port connection doesn't work for treasure resources in exploration though. And good luck finding info about connection mechanics or ranges in-game, much less figuring out whether a city will be connected before you build it 🙃
