I'm not sure what the appeal is with Civ 7. It looks like a worse Civ 6 in my opinion.
The obvious current flaws of the repetitiveness of the era game play loop and the few actual civs you currently start a game with and lack of game customization will sink in over the next days/weeks, lowering player count, right now the new feeling and the new combat system and graphics and mods / hope for mods/changes is keeping it in ok shape, not great, I think once the shiny new wears off we will see how far it falls in player count, this will determine how bad it gets compared to other games.
As someone who has played every Civ, from 3 onwards - this is not a true statement. The game is far behind from Civ 6 and a bland copy of Humankind, as the customer we can demand and expect better.
