Does Civ 7 run with a GTX 970?

I saw this question in several threads but no answer so far ...

The GTX 970 actually should be stronger than the GTX 1050 (minimum requirements) but it is a bit older, so there is the uncertainty that the game may simply refuse to run with a GTX 970 if the devs check the type of Graphics Card at start.

As far as I know :
The GTX 970 was released in 2014 and features (3.5 + 0.5) GB.
The GTX 1050 has several versions : a 2 GB from 2016 and a 3 GB version from 2018. (The GTX 1050 Ti (2016) with 4 GB should be above minimum requirement.)

In general the GTX 970 may cause problems if a game tries to use more memory than the basic fast 3.5 GB, since the additional 0.5 GB are slow memory.
(wiki : "... the card was designed to access its memory as a 3.5 GB section, plus a 0.5 GB one, access to the latter being 7 times slower than the first one.")

Has anybody tried Civ 7 with the GTX 970?
What are your experiences?

I do not know. Seems like the 970 supports dx12. Not sure about vulkan. You might have to go 1080p and low settings given age and memory. Theoretically possible but buy it where you can return it.

I would be surprised if it didn't. The GTX 970 is superior to the GTX 1050. The performance difference is nearly 100 percent in favor of the 970. The only thing I could think of is that CIV VII requires at minimum 4GB Vram.

If you try Civ7 with a 970 don't forget to use Lossless Scaling program, it doubles your framerates basically.

The min specs state that a NVIDIA GTX 1050 is needed.

Going onto VideoCardBenchmark.net and comparing your GTX970 to the GTX1050 it shows that your GTX970 is almost double the performance of the of the GTX1050. Here is the comparison if you wise to see for yourself:

I knew that the GTX 970 is superior to the GTX 1050 ...
The problem is that the GTX 970 is OLDER and so I was asking for player experience if Civ 7 runs with a GTX 970.

Instead of GTX 1050 the devs could have specified something like
"Minimum : 2 GB VRAM, DX12 or Vulcan",
but they didn't. Maybe they just wanted to limit the number of graphic cards to test the game on to cards from the past 8 years?

It's possible that devs added a check at start like : if GTX_TYPE < 1050 THEN EXIT
So I am asking for real Civ 7 GTX 970 experience.

You are welcome and I would put money on your GTX970 being able to run Civ7. However I would recommend that you stay away from the title. My review below:

I watched many preview videos and Let's Plays, so I know what to expect from the current state of Civ 7.

Since Civ 4 I am used to mostly play on Giant Earth maps with all civs in True Starting Locations in marathon or slower speed ... The new system with mixed leaders, separate ages, medium maps, new world, switching civilizations, etc does not support this play style at all ... So I will wait and see how Civ 7 will evolve.

The question about the GTX 970 was just in general in case that prices drop fast. I already saw a -26% discount recently.
