No autosave from previous age.
I just transitionend into modern age and after looking at my position, I wanted to go back and make a different choice. But it turns out I only have 1 autosave from right after the transition. My settings says to keep 10 autosaves.

Do they really delete all the autosaves from previous age when you enter a new age?
Why? I mean, I can go back to a manual save game, but that is like 5 hours back. Why? That is such a strange patronizing design choice, if it is on purpose.

Next time, manually save the game near 100%.
I will. But still... why delete them?

Dunno, have to ask them.

They aren't deleted, but moved to a "prev" subfolder*. You can't find them in game anymore, but you could move them back in their original folder to load them again.

I fully agree that the game shouldn't do this and just leave them be. I guess they do that because a new age starts at turns 1 and it might confuse people that the autosave from turn 179 came before turn 1, but still bad design.

* The folder is where they move to is:
Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization VII\Saves\Single\auto\prev
or
Documents\Saved Games\Sid Meier's Civilization VII\Saves\Single\auto\prev
Thanks man, you saved me.
This got me so confused... I'm totally unable to reproduce the issues at all on my end.

Autosave limit is 10, and autosave is set to occur every two turns... Restarted the program between after age transitions and autosaves and everything, to no avail.

Am I misunderstanding the issue here?

Still, it is mere 10 autosaves, so saving before and after age transition is great idea.
I don't think you misunderstand the issue, I think it just doesn't happen to everyone. My guess is that the cleaning of autosaves (as in, moving them to prev folder, making them unavailable in game) is by design, but it bugs out for some, leaving the autosaves just there.
Why else would there be a prev folder, and why else would many people experience this?

Here, the bug is preferable to the intended action.

Maybe it doesn't happen to you because you autosave every two turns, instead of every turn? I don't know.

For me, it is very consistent. Every age transition, the autosaves are moved to the prev folder. So on turn 1 in Exploration or Modern, I only have that one autosave from turn 1, instead of the 10 autosaves it normally keeps.

There is a way to adjust your autosaves -- both frequency and total number. You have to make small changes in a folder called UserOptions -- found in the Civ7 game folder. It is a notepad in ASCII format which you can edit. Here's what to look for:

;Number of turns between autosaves
;AutoSaveFrequency 1

;Number of autosaves to keep
AutoSaveKeepCount 200

The default autosave frequency; is 1. The default number of saves to keep is 10. Change that line AutoSaveKeepCount by deleting the leading semicolon and changing the number to whatever you want.
