This. When the core deviates from the game, the game should take on a new name.. Sort of like how Beyond Earth was a different perspective. This is what frustrated players... Its a game. It will be fun to play in its own right... but its not a Civ series game..
If Firaxis no longer wants to Civilization to be Civilization, nothing prevents other studios to develop the game in the original spirit. Think for instance how Maxis ruined Sim City before city builders were revived again with Cities Skylines.
There's an option to allow duplicate cultures now in Humankind. Also HK lets you keep your culture in to the next age if you want to so it can be done.
I am talking about if they bring back Classic Mode. No one would swap at the same time, but instead when they reached that level in the tech tree.
Oh nice. I did not know they added that ability.
And the only possibility that Civ8 would go "classic" again would be if Civ7 is a massive failure, which isn't likely considering how well-known the franchise is among a mainstream audience. So you should better get used to how it is now as it's very unlikely it will change.
I wouldn’t be so sure, time will tell.
So far this has been the worst launch in Civilization history. I think Civ 8 will for sure have a Classic mode, and i do think it would be in Firaxis best interest to introduce it in Civ 7
Unfortunately, I think it won’t be possible (at least to do it properly).
Some changes can be done to help bridge the gap, but only Civ 8 could bring back the original Civ1-6 game.
But if the only reason something might change in the next game is if this game is such a massive failure, and is unlikely to happen because the franchise is so well known.......
Then why did it change in the first place?
As within your stated scenario, the only reason civ 7 would have made these changes is if civ 6 was a massive failure.
But you've already established civ 6 couldn't have been a massive failure because of how established the franchise is.
The fact Civ 7 exists as it does kind of invalidates your entire hypothesis and stated perspective, no?
There's been several controversial changes in past iterations of Civ series, but as the new games have always been a success, they never moved back from those changes. And those changes became the new normal for the new fans arriving.
That's how it always happened. It's been 35 years I play this game. I never heard Sid Meier telling "fans were right, that was crap, we will scrap it". Never. However, he often told on interview "who those angry fans think they are? They think they own the game *laugh* they don't".
