Is this game good for kids?
So, I've seen a lot of rather bad reviews by experienced strategy/wargamers (such as me) calling the game too streamlined, optimized for console… So here I'm suddenly wondering if this could be the game that I've looking for as a way of introducing my 12-yo daughter to the world of strategy gaming ? If it's optimized for console, surely it must be good on Switch?

So, here is my question: do you think this is a good introduction game to strategy gaming for kids?
Or do you have any other game to recommend that could be a better intro?
(or should I like, rather look towards Pikmin or any other game you might name?)

(For my part, I'm kind of done with the “official” Civ games, just like I'm done with GW and went over to Ninth Age / OnePage Rules.
I was utterly disappointed with Civ V at release and the DLCs did not fix it for me until the Vox Populi community patch, which I played enthusiastically for ten+ years until I gave a try to Old World and found it to be the Civ game I'd been looking for – finished at release, extremely complete interface, many DLCs that add great content, and much cheaper, too :)
But still, Civ VII looks simple and with good graphics and my kid might learn something playing it, too, so that's why I'm suddenly interested in it)

Is Oldworld that good? I'm considering buying it instead of this pile of mess

I've heard that it has a fixed city-placement location though. How does it feels?
@Ghiznuk

I'd go for Civilization 6 for your daughter. I imagine its graphics and more "easy going" style is the right choice to introduce her to 4x games. I feel she should play vanilla Civ 6, first, for not to overwhelm her and to see, if it's the right choice.

Old World is really good. You can check out the free demo, first. Also worth to download and read the game manual (on store page to the right side - scroll down). Fixed city-placement location is part of the game concept and I wouldn't change it. But you can download this mod created by one of the devs:

Old World, Millenia, or Civ 6 I would all recommend over this game.
Despite what the trolls will tell you, Civ VII is still a Civilization game with all the depth and complexity that entails, so kids might find it a bit overwhelming.

Yes, despite what the obsessed poster's and ill informed say this version of "civ" is very kid friendly.

It comes with a 10 year old age rating with Alcohol and Tobacco Reference's

I’d say 10+ should be okay. You’ll probably have to help them out at the start so they understand how to place buildings, use army commanders etc.

Nobody mentioned a game that had an all time peak under 3600 players.

In my opinion Civ 7 is a good start for 4X.

The main reason is, that you allways have the paths to victory that give you objectives you need to fullfill for progress. So you never get into a "i dont know what to do next" void. Civ 7 is perfect for showing you what you can do, what you need to do and how you compare to the other civilisations around you.

The main reason for that was that the game wasn't released on Steam for a couple of years but exclusive to Epic. This did damage the game inititially & took awhile to get noticed, which is a shame as it is a really good game.

I guess the historical benefit for a child would be lost with this iteration of the game. As far as a teaching tool for strategic thinking, there may be better choices out there but a lot of it will depend on your opinion of the game itself.
