It always makes me laugh to see a publisher waste money on Denuvo in the Windows version of a game when there are also going to be Mac and Linux versions without it.
Laughing is very healthy, but in this case I don't understand why you do. I doubt a lot of people will buy a Mac or install Linux just to avoid Denuvo. And Mac and Linux gamers are a pretty small group, in comparison.

It's endlessly funny to me when a publisher decides to waste money on Denuvo when there will also be native Mac and Linux versions that won't have it.

now is even you are getting punished for purchasing the game.
The same could be said about Steam. It's an extra layer on top of your game, needing an account and such. In your line of thinking it's a "punishment for purchasing a Steam-enabled game".

For me on a personal level, the difference is that Steam is a portable program that can stay offline forever. It doesn't matter what servers are available and what companies are in business, you can copy/paste your entire Steam installation and games to any machines you want to and play them forever as long as there's no extra DRM; Denuvo forces a game to be server-dependent, so there's essentially a built-in off switch.

Exactly. And when the Denuvo servers are down or publishers don't pay the license fee, guess what, no one can access the game.

Very valid point. I didn't know that Steam offline was unlimited.

I've purchased every Civilization since 1992. Is Firaxis really going to bring my streak to an end with Denuvo? Go ahead. It's not like the old days. I will gladly skip the game, save the money, and spend it on the endless amount of games that decide to respect customers and not add malware to their computers.

" Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: Denuvo Anti-tamper
5 activations withing 24 hours machine activation limit "

One more nail in the coffin of this game.

has a good write up I read to inform myself about denuvo

remove it.

That's definitely the last nail in the coffin. Was already on the fence with the whole thing. I mean the game seems okayish, but it just isn't what I look for in a Civ game. And now this on top of all that? Removed from wishlist and prolly not gonna even bother with it when it goes on sale in a few years. Shame.
Star Paladin (Zbanowany) 30 sierpnia 2024 o 13:29
Ok, I did not mind all the changes, and was going to try the game, but Denuvo is not going to happen on my computer. Nope! No sale.
Star Paladin (Zbanowany) 30 sierpnia 2024 o 13:33
Denuvo is installed in the "Kernel" level of your computer. This is to make as sure as possible people can't cheat or copy the game, but, it's like giving them a key to the back door of your house, and hoping they won't use it "inappropriately". Or, that someone else does not get the key.

It also stays on your computer after you uninstall the game that put it there in the first place.

Denuvo? Refundo!
Yep, as stated, not interested in installing malware to my PC.
I'll reconsider purchase once it's gone. :bleach:

You're talking about Denuvo Anti-Cheat, but Civ 7 will use Denuvo Anti-Tamper which is a completely different product that does not install in the kernel mode of the OS. It also doesn't stay installed when uninstalling the game.
Antearz 30 sierpnia 2024 o 13:51
Denuvo means I will never Buy this Game.
No Offense. But Denuvo is one of the worst Anti Cheat Softwares there is.
Causing massive Privacy concerns and Computer Problems.
That alone is frankly a Dealbreaker for many People including me.
Because no Offense. But I will not have my Computer Scanned by Untrustworthy Software from a Third Party just to Play Your Game.

Add to that. That this means Civ 7 Dies the moment the Servers close and is unplayable Offline.

But beyond that. Its also completely Stupid to even use this here.
Civilization is not some Competetive Online Shooter or something.
Most People Play Solo or with Friends.
They dont need Anti Cheat at all.

As for DRM. Lets Face it Guys.
The Game will be Cracked in less than 4 Weeks.
And the Sad Truth is. The Cracked Version will then actually work better than the Original Version because that Invasive Malware has been Removed from it.
This has already been Demonstrated on other Titles using Denuvo.

So. Overall lets be Clear.
Denuvo is a NoNo.
I am one of Your Fans who has been around for a long time. And if You go for Denuvo. Then this will be the First Game of this Series I dont Buy.
