nobody likes that feature... well almost nobody.
The best options appear to be out of northern Africa and the vicinity of modern India. North America seems likely to have a route of via Mississippian, Shawnee, then some modern American, but we haven't seen that last Civ yet - just Ben Franklin as a leader.

Yes, but to clarify, it's not quite as extreme as your example. As I understand it, each Civ has a somewhat "historical" path they will follow by default. That is to say, you won't begin as Russia (who is not in the ancient age) and then be forced to switch Zulu.
I'm not super excited about the mechanic, but I just wanted to point out it's not going to be a completely random switch.
Why did you preorder it then lmao?
And, as the devs keep showing more of the game, while not impossible to change, this game's philosophy is radically opposed to the idea of playing one civilisation led by someone representative of that civilisation. In other words, this is anything but a Civ game.
