So that 2K/Firaxis can earn some early fast cash! Greed is good. Or so I've heard. :-)

With pre-order purchases, they can pay the employees working on future content and updates for the game.

Because this is a guaranteed buy.

If I've already decided that I'm going to purchase upcoming games like Assassin's Creed: Shadows, FC 25, Anno 117: Pax Romana, and Civilization VII, and these are guaranteed buys, then there are no rules as to when I give them the money.

They can have the cash now, or later.

Civilization VII is still five months away, but not even that would be close to a record. I've had the Shattered Space expansion for eleven months and still have to wait until September 30th to play it. Which I'm not looking forward to.

Now that's crazy.

I'm not giving them a dime ahead of time, even when I am interested in pre buying it's only at the very last moment. Ain't no free lunch or free loan on my back bro.

The only reason to pre-purchase in this day and age is if you are 100% going to buy it no matter what and there's a discount attached. I am actually shocked they didn't do some sort of discount on Green Man Gaming. They would have ended up with a lot of pre-orders that couldn't be refunded.

Six months prior to launch is way too early for me but it's easy to understand why some folks commit so early. I'm not like that myself but I can understand it. It's a new CIV and people have been waiting for this for a long time now.

I will probably pre-order the Deluxe edition early in the New Year, but I also might wait until after the release too. I waited until Warlords was released before buying Civ IV and I might do the same this time around.

So they can release a DLC at release :D

The more you buy, the more they can make dlc for release!
There are several dlc announced allready that add two more leaders and Civilization. So we may have 10 to 20 more leader to as an extra on the release, so that you don`t have to use same 5 from the base game!
;)
What did cartman say about pre-order?

Because a business ultimate goal is to make money. I know, it's a shocking surprise right. Who would have thought.

I think the real question here is why do you care if people want to pre-purchase a game?
returning143 Aug 24, 2024 @ 1:33pm
I don't really worry about when pre-orders open up for any given game. What does perplex me though is that they didn't post the system requirements before opening up sales.

those preorder zombies will be mad then and say "130$ wasted" like every time... they wont learn

Because you're paying for a product that isn't finished. You are giving money to a company that is definitely wealthy enough to not need money up front to produce. Any argument of it 'helping them make more dlc' just shows how deluded some have become. Expansions used to be for games that were good and sold well, now you accept the game being broken into a phased development where they milk you multiple times.
