Do we finally go back to CIV V art style?
CIV VI cartoonish art style was the major deal breaker for me

I'd say this one looks worse than 6. I don't know how they did it, but the current leaders in the gameplay footage look really bad. One can only hope it just hasn't been polished yet.

I actually like the art design outside of the UI and the leader/diplo screens. shame about everything else though

I really hope they are planning to take another pass on the leaders. CIV 5 vs CIV 7

No I'd say it looks better than Civ VI by a country mile. Looks less cartoonish and more like a clay and resin diorama. Similar in style to Endless Legend. I like it. A lot better than Civ VI. I never liked Civ VI's style. Quite frankly, I vastly preferred Civ V's style even with how simple it is in comparison. This feels like a step back from the cartoony, but not all the way back to Civ V. But also looks like a meaningful improvement to the look of the game. I like it.

But I also like how they the cities look like they expand outward a lot more than in previous games. I just hope they get rid of districts. I never liked the way that worked in VI. Felt like such a waste of turns for no real benefit until you actually built something in it. Resulting in a lot of turns being burned on something that wouldn't even provide any benefit until you built the next thing in it after it was done. And if you ended up in a war or something else that required you to pivot, it just made all those wasted turns feel all the worse. Which was further compounded for every additional city and district type you had to repeat that slow burn process with with. I know that mechanic was integral to VI, but I hated it.

So I'd like to see them get rid of the "turn wasters" like they did in V where Civ V had the requirement that every upgrade had to provide a meaningful benefit that could actually be felt by the player. As a result, I still play Civ V a lot more than Civ VI. Civ VI did have a few good ideas and I know a lot of people love it, but overall, I still think V was the much better game and the one I still "enjoy" playing the most. I have high hopes for VII, but also a lot of caution.

To read or not to read. That is your choice and not my problem.

Civ 5 looks wonderful once antialiasing is turned off. Since its older than 6, the antialiasing technique makes the visuals very blurry in that game, but once you disable it, the visuals gain a lot of sharpness. I do this often with older games and I think in Civ 5 the option is actually called "overlay something"; the trick is moving it to "low" instead of "high".

The cartoon art style and the large 'not to scale' unit models are what turns me off. Large unit models do not convey a sense of billions of humans. That is why I stick with Civ V

You got the "realistic" one with Civ 7. Careful what you wish for.
