No idea about CiV 6 which I don't have but CiV 5 did not force me to create any account iirc.

Then it would be best to not to include

Requires 3rd-Party Account: 2K Account

on the store page.

I think their comment was in relation to the first poster. Regardless, instant skip on this. I don't need any more accounts to random stuff I don't use.

....crossplay or this is a dealbreaker. (It would be fun to play with my brother who would play on PS5, and I could understand NEEDING a 3rd party server to broker that... but... unless the singleplayer works without it, this is the only way Im even giving this a look.)

V does not have this.

I think in 6 is not required but gave you an extra leader. Caesar, I think.

Then it would be a good thing that the account requirement remains optional for those of us who couldn't care less about a couple of leaders. But of course, it's far more entertaining to irritate and bully the majority of potential customers while sacrificing revenue. 2K seems to be taking a page out of Sony's playbook. Just look at how warmly the community embraced the PSN requirement for a single-player game.

And then people went in and bought the game anyway. So yeah, we can argue all thay long, but people will create a damn account because playing is more important than corporations wanting to earn more by gathering and selling personal data.

But me? Gonna pass, can't be bothered to remember any passwords to any platforms outside of Steam, typically forcing me to recover said passwords which for many launchers is a deliberate pain in the behind, and don't get me started on BS like recovery codes, authenticators and whatnot. My banks are good with sending me a code via text messages, gaming companies who loose our data all the time require as to setup multilayer verification schemes and go through our data along the way. Nah, I'm good.

A lot of Firaxis games in the last decade have had some sort of external launcher, but no mandatory login. At least, none I've owned, which is most or all of the Civs and Xcoms.

And... yeah, that's a hard pass. As a personal rule I don't tolerate additional layers of drm and logins. Frankly no one should. That's ostensibly what we put up with already by virtue of buying and playing on Steam. But each to their own convictions. It's ultimately a bit of a first-world problem, but it is one of my personal lines in the sand.

Been a fan for over a quarter century, so it's a bummer, but I guess that's seventy bucks I won't feel tempted to spend next year, and I'm certainly at no lack for other things to play.

I don't suspect it will change either. Whatever they might lose in sales is probably going to be a drop in the bucket compared to the value of data they'll collect.

Yep pretty much. Its funny how many who share our opinion are just grizzled gaming vets by now. The new kids who dont know or dont WANT to know better are the type to submit and bend over to companies demands. I cant help but compare this to war veterans and fresh recruits.

Yeah even if Civ VII turns out good, a 3rd party account requirement is pretty much always a no from me.

I dread this going to be another always online single player game. I'm so tired of being "the product".

CIV 6 forced that over a year after release. Much like what helldivers 2 pulled. Unsurprisingly no one gave a ♥♥♥♥ when I tried to refund when I said "this is not the product I paid for."

Needless to say, that was the last time i touched one of their products.

Why does creating an account from the developers/publishers matter so must for some people?

I already have a 2K account. It has no negative effect on me or games.

P.S. We do not know if the account is a requirement to play the game. It could be just like 6.
