So planetary supremacy isnt actually that bad
Just my opinion of course. I held off for a long time on this game because that was the only game mode i was wanting to play really (actually wound up liking the campaign also) but i never pulled the trigger on getting this game cuz everyone said planetary supremacy was a bad game mode.

I just played through my first one. lost miserably because i messed up multiple times lol. I can concede it definitely needs some loving from the devs to be something to come back to play a lot. namely the map feeling too small and the fact its only a 3 player brawl is kind of whack and perhaps maybe some added mechanics to spice things up a bit more would be nice.

I think its pretty entertaining though. curious as to why so many people dont like it.

It's definitely fun, I lost my game yesterday although didn't make any obvious mistakes.
It was Orks vs SOB vs Necrons and there were quite a few things that I don't get.

First I attacked the Necrons while they had a weakened army and they withdrew, but I didn't get the territory while if any other faction attacked me I would lose the tile if I withdrew.

Second was playing a contest point map.
The SOB got the point first, no big deal because I'll get there with my whole army while the computer has sent his fast units while splitting his army.
In the next few turns my whole army is inside the CP zone and only the enemy is racking up points and I don't know why. Is it based on the number of models instead of squads?
Another thing I noticed the SOB also gained points while killing my units while I did not killing theirs.
Has anybody any clue as why this is happening?

your experience is definitely a tad bit different from my experience with planetary supremacy. though ive only played it so far as the blood angels. As far as i cant tell with missions that make you hold the center zone it works differently for both sides. If youre tasked with being the one to hold the cap zone then you will need to have more troops in the zone than your enemy to gain positive points. In which the points you get does appear to count 1 point per model in the zone. And if there are enemies in the zone your points you gain are offset by how many units they have. In some cases losing you points.

If youre the one tasked with stopping the enemy from capping the zone then you just need to sit your units in the zone while killing off enemy squads and models. The point system is the same in every victory condition from what i can tell where whoever gets to 80 points fist wins.

You are supposed to get victory points in battles off killing a vehicle units or for infantry a squad. But i did notice in some instances i would kill off an entire unit and not get credited with any victory points. And i didnt notice any patterns as to why that is. Perhaps theres a valid reason for this perhaps its a bug. hard to say.

The AI stands about no chance after the first few battles. The mode is a good idea but the whole game needs a stronger AI (not one that has just stronger stats on units) in order to be OK in single player, apart from the campaign. And I do like the game a lot in MP, but skirmish and planetary mode has no legs apart from testing units for MP.

Thanks for clarifying a few things, did't know it was scored different for attacking/defending armies. I'll give it a few more tries and maybe figure out why sometimes you don't get points for eliminating enemy units, maybe it's also tied to the attack/defend mechanic.

Yeah I also really enjoy Planetary Supremacy. I have fun every time I play it and the more factions that get added, the better it will be. The upgrade trees are interesting and I like that they added the control zone mechanic on certain maps. Would eventually like to see a larger map with more factions allowed, but this works well for now.
