Sanguinary Guard >>> they just rule, but the Inferno pistol feels like a downgrade, I kinda like the Plasma-pistol, as it is more versatile. And the melee upgrade is OMFG.....
I had/have 2 units of them after a few missions, and they do their job just exceptional well:
- pistol reaction shots
- double attack once their special is up (you will have the commander next to them ^^)
- jump jets (!)
I quite liked the Inceptor (/w Plasma Assault) later on, but never bothered taking the basic Assaults or Death Company.
Furioso Dreadnaught /w Heavy Flamer == LOVE! burn them to ashes .... there is nothing more satisfying, then to delete 2-3 units in one go.
(I only had one unit in my campaign, and the full upgrade tree is worth it....)
Other than that...give the upgrades a try, some apply only, once the mission starts....
[Sanguinary Guards is really powerful]
Thanks.
BTW, do you think the lucifer pattern engines and the autocannon upgrade are worth it on the Predator, or if you;re not going for the flamer, do you just leave it without any upgrades?
I'm wondering, as I am using 2 now, and I don't have any upgrades on it. I could easily spend points on them if I wanted to though. I like the Autocannon on these and I use flamers on my Dreads.
Are flamers just better on the Predator as well? I like the AC because it can take out varied targets. it also has good armour from the front, so you can use it to draw attacks.
I have 3 Dreads and 2 Tanks now (well I have more in reserve, just mean in my main army right now for missions) if I want to keep my other stuff alive, this seems to be optimal. Draw attacks with the bulky stuff and counter with relative stuff.
I think the Predator is the last thing in my current squad I don't have levelled up, seems weird not to drop any points on it, but maybe it is good enough to just roll vanilla?
Assault Marines are mostly a PvP unit, imo. And for their cost, they are AMAZING! But in something like a campaign(which is more like an endurance run or survival mode), they are not that good. They don't really have anything to offer(imo).
I'll probably try the Death Company when I got them. I actually rate the basic sisters, once you upgrade them. Plus they have a nade. Good to add 2 or 3 squads for cheap.
I just got the Seraphim's as well, so probably going to level them up to help with my Plasma Inceptors. The Inceptors are great though. If you take 3 of them, they can nuke any target in one turn. I think the Seraphim will enable me to drop one inceptor, and save some points.
I think I'm gonna level my Baal's up to have Flamestorm cannons as well, as might as well have then with my Furiso's for handling all the swarms. I always have these put front anyway, so makes sense.
Last thing i want is a Librarian with all the unlocks. Having a dedicated fighting character will be nice to add to my blender. So far have 2 x SG with plas/Hammer, smash captain with hammer, Sister HQ with Power Sword, and then the Priest to land the Melee buff on them, too.
I have been trying to keep Brother Quindar in with them to get buffs as well, but I'd like to send him off with the Armour and have a 2nd Librarian for the melee team.
I like to keep everything together though, buff as much stuff as I can and then send stuff out.
I am trying to move stuff in formation and then drop the buffs in the second turn, if there isn't anything I can hit right away.
