Speculation for the next few years
So I've been wondering a lot recently about what new factions the Devs can bring into the game and when and I thought, why not post the speculations here and see what others thinks. I have absolutely no insider knowledge to back this up, nor is it really a wish list. More just what I think is likely to happen and why based on what we've seen so far. So let's begin:

2023

Orks for sure are coming next year as they have been teased. I think they'll be within the first six months so hopefully around Spring time. Would love to celebrate Waaaapril!

After that, I think we'll see a Khornate faction with a mixture of demons and khorne chaos marines. Why? Well, they already have the demon models in demonic incursion. It'd be leaving money on the table if they don't pack them up as dlc and sell them. They could do a combined demons of chaos faction, but if we presume each God will have around 7 units to choose from, that brings the overall number to 28, which seems incredibly high compared to other races. I can see though, about 7 world eater type units coming in, especially with the new codex release. Zerkers, a commander, some kind of foddery cultist unit. Maybe bikes or terminators. They have blood angels they could use as a base for the models and they wouldn't play that differently. Also, that khornate chaos engine demon thing that harpoons the enemy and brings them forward could be a lot of fun.

I also think for 2023 we'll get a free transportation unit for BA, Necrons and maybe Tyranids (honestly I think being carried on by the Tervigon would work best). Having transports makes sisters really powerful and it would make sense for other factions to get the love. Also, they'd best be free. I'm not paying for a ghost ark that should be within the Necron release.

Lastly, I think we'll see another demon enemy in demonic incursion. My bet is Nurgle. Khorne and Nurgle are the most represented chaos forces in 40k video games. They are both easily understandable in how they play and what they represent. Plus, we already have a poison/corrosion mechanic that Nurgle demons could make use out of. Tzeentch is probably a little too obscure and Slaanesh a little too NSFW for this point in the game.

2024

Right, let's drive head first into speculation territory. The first new army of 2024 will be Craftworld Eldar. Yes, another xenos army. Why, well for a start they have been a starter army in every single DoW game and if th Devs were to do as many armies as they could, they'd have to make some Eldar models eventually. Why not start with the classics.

They would be quite different to what we're used to. Very much a glass hammer and I can see some movement shenanigans going on. Such as if they kill a model they get a chance to get (x) amount of movement points refunded ( X being the number of models they kill) so their playstyle works with hit and run tactics. Their could be a lot of fun with all the specialist aspect warriors and who wouldn't want to see a showdown between the avatar of khaine and a bloodthirster.

Seriously, I'm calling it now. The next xenos army after orks will be craftworld eldar.

But that's not all for 2024 as I think we can reasonably expect two armies a year. Later on though, I think we'll get another loyalist space marine force. Why. Because everyone has their own chapter and space marines make money. For this, I think there are three choices: Ultramarines, Dark Angels and Space Wolves. My money is on Ultrasmurfs. They are literally the poster boys for 40k and the codex has a lot more generic units they could use. Again, making an Ultramarine army would be somewhat cheaper than any other as they could use the BA models as base. Just paint them blue and shooty and have them rant about Macragge instead of Baal.

On the back of Ultramarines, I think we'll also see an army painter feature. This is so anyone who does buy the Ultramarines can paint their force in any chapter they want (salamanders, raven guard etc) and so use the generic units they want that most fit their playstyle.

2025 and beyond

Ok, so this is now getting tough. The pessimist in me is thinking that support for the game might be winding down. Hopefully we'll still get two armies a year, but it just be one at this point, if any. That being said, I think we'll also get a Nurgle force. see my reasons for Khorne but now add Nurgle. Again, use BA (or now World eater) models and make them all sickly and gross. By this point they would already have about seven demon units to draw from so half way there again.

As for a new xenos, that leaves the T'au and that could be one all about supporting other units and double tapping. For imperials, I think it's about the time the Guard turn up (Astra what?). Yes, infantry squads would be absolute fodder but Leman Russes and Rogal Dorns would make up for it. Also, having a commisar shoot other infantry units to gain momentum would be hilarious.

I think we'll also see a scenario editor if not in 2025 then in 2026 although that's just the wildest speculation as I know it's not a priority.

I would love to be wrong, but I really don't see any new single player campaigns coming. They're just too expensive. What I think might happen before that is a new game plus mode whereby we get other imperial units to use in the main single player, such as sisters and Guard. That's a big might.

Even though there's obviously more armies to choose from, I can't see there being much more support from 2026. If we do get that far, maybe Drukhari and Ad mech but that's about it. Can't see the other chaos factions, nor things like custodes, genestealers, leagues of votann etc coming. But hey, at this point we could have mods for them already.

So that's just my speculation. Let me know what you think I'm completely wrong and we'll see what the next few years bring for Battlesector.

Fun read and fun to speculate.

Well thought out and reasoned, and interesting to read.
I am very much looking forward to seeing new factions emerge.
Orks, Eldar and Tau are my favourites.

Thanks. Well, you should at least get one of them in the next year.

I just hope the devs manage to add a variety of factions before dropping support for the game.

Where have the Orks been teased? I've been trying to find out if the are going to release more units or factions

Back during the Festival of Skulls thingy mid year there was a developer video for the next six months which explained Sisters. The guy at the end said they had some 'cunning' plans. Can't think of anything else but Orks.
Mizar Jan 1, 2023 @ 12:14pm
We need some T'au, it's for the greater good after all.

cool, thats very nice :) Hopefully they release more factions and units for the current factions.

Yeah, thinking about it, we may be lucky and get some faction reinforcements. If nothing else transports.

I hope so:steamhappy:

Just got the game, the breakdown is pretty good and makes sense. I would say the next faction is Orks, Tau, and Astermilitarium. The reason being, I am sure the devs got a budget now, hired 5 guys and fiver the models from fans. This game slaps HARD! If the YT algorium brought me here, it will bring others. More people, more money, more factions. Variation also adds spice, if they go the safe and easy route, people will get burned out by the space marine vs demon combo.
This is great Game I love it very much because I can play this game with my 12old son and show him Warhammer 40k universe.
I wisch to see more factions madmax style Orks with other Marine Chapters Options(ie. Ultramarines, Dark Angels, Space Wolfes, Fists and Templars in basic the same but diffrend skils, vechicles, characters and special units) for Space Marines and single player campaign
Clasical Predator like Eldars tied in to campaign with Imperial guard(Catachan, Cadia or Chaos Cultists)
Diffrend options for Imperial Guard(Talaran, Mordian, Deatch Corps, Genesterler cult)
And more of Chaos Khorne demons are good start but I wish they expand from there in to Chaos Space Marines of Black legion or Word Bearers for start. Leater in time Tau, Dark Eldar, Mechanicum and Votan

For unit changes I wish see more canonical units
Monolith for Necrons
Furioso Dreadnought and Death Company Dreadnought insted of those existing ones(leave them to other chapters)

I love to see more elastic enviorment.
Bridges and walls to torn them down.
Ammo and fuel depots to blown up and wound nerby units.
Places for characters, relicts to take(momentum bust, hit points bust), lever to open gates or rise bridges

Big campaign to conquer space with map of galasy or star sysem or planet for solo or hot seat mode.
More single player campaigns for other factions
What Warhammer total war may by nice inspiration (3 games as parts combaining in to one epic game)

I think game is pretty balanced giving Blood Angels Transports may break the game they alredy have 3 jet pack units, land speeders and tereporting Terminators.
II wish they give us more diffrend Chapters of space marines with similiar basic but diffrend vechicles and special units and characters (Land Raider for Dark Angels, Rhinos for Space Wolves or Razorbacks for Ultra Marines).
