One way or another, I am so happy that this game exists and it was released on PC. Amazing remaster!
Even if it didn't sell too much after that, they still have plans to remaster the games because the sales are far beyond what was expected. Sales may not be terribly high, but considering the relatively low expense of remaster development, they will probably bring over the other games based on this data, because the profit is worth it, particularly since there is no physical version of the game so they don't have much in the way of actual production costs.
As for Internationally, SaGa Frontier legit is the one game a lot of people have played to some capacity, as it was the first SaGa game localized under it's original name, but was a bit more restricted outside of North America (with PAL regions resorting either to using imported consoles, mod chips, or emulation, but I do know people in these regions that have played it before). Still, it's a game people fondly remember from years ago and given the more ease of availability now, plus adding a lot of missing features the original was intended to have, I'd been surprised if this didn't do well.
So, it likely sold fairly well. Unsure how the Steam sales in itself did, but probably fairly decent. Wish we could get more easily accessible information on Steam sales like we used to be able to, but alas...
SE did push the marketing a bit more for Frontier, as they made all those quality videos (and they were actually surprisingly good). Still, the confused responses from some new reviewers probably tempered the sales from reaching higher, I'm sure, since the game, and series, still confuses a lot of mainstream gamers.
Anyway, it's good enough to get more remasters, so I'm happy. We have a new game and more remasters to look forward to. It's a good time to be a SaGa fan.
