controls not working

same here, nothing I do seems to make my controller work, there is no option for it in settings and there doesn't seem to be a config file to edit in order to enable it either

Make sure the window has "focus". You need to move the mouse to the game window and click to get the game in focus. You cannot have the mouse on a browser or something else and use the controller.

This is a Windows thing. Not a SaGa Frontier thing. Controllers only work if the game they are controlling is the active window.

If the game is accepting keyboard input, it is the active window.

Tried disabling Steam Input (as this sometimes works for other games) but still nothing. I'm using a wired Xbox series X controller.

Weird, my Xbox 360 controller worked fine, but because it's so old my character runs to the left all the time if I bump it. I was just going to use something to have it go to a PS4 controller, but I haven't tested anything else as I just went ahead and started Mouse and Keyboard after rebinding some keys.

The game uses your steam profile. Make sure your steam profile loads. I have had issues with some games where you have to go to the steam profile and mess with it, but I'm not sure exactly what to do. It does say full controller support, so I wonder if there is an in-game setting for it as well.

I haven't had any issue. I'm using a PS5 controller and it works instantly every time.

I was having this issue, i got my wired Xb1 controller working by going to Properties, Controller Configuration, Enable Steam Input. The default settings weren't working for me.

Had/Have the same problem with Octopath Traveler (also from SE). Only solution so far for me:

Big Picture Mode -> Start Game -> Controller works. Maybe it helps here too?

I bought that 'Controller Companion" App for $2.99 and it works with no problems. I had a few other games where the controller was supposed to work and wouldn't and in one instance (KOTOR) it gave me great controller support that wasn't there. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the purchase. I would have paid the 3 bucks to get KOTOR on PC with a gamepad. I'm using a Logitech f310. And if you do get it, whenever you go into Fullscreen it disables. You have to hold select and press start, that will turn it back on and you'll be good to go!!! Enjoy.
