This most recent patch improved the game even more.
They fixed the most annoying bug (low-res textures would load on the ground regardless of your settings) - and they added a bunch of features and QoL stuff.
At this point, I'd call it a good to very good game, depending on your preferences.
For 40 bucks/euros - it's more than worth checking out, if you're into the genre.
It's very much an Arkane game, complete with tons to explore, a very compelling setting and some immersive sim elements.
On top, it's a decent enough looter shooter - and it's actually somewhat challenging on the higher difficulty settings - especially as a solo experience.
Is it the best game ever? Definitely not.
But it's good now.
Anyway, that's just my take.
The Good:
As others said before, offline mode works.
Performance on lower end machines seems to be better compared to the Nov. '23 patch.
On higher end machines you can play in native 3840x2160 w/o upscaling again (wasn't working after the Nov. ´23 patch).
Overall the LOD assets seem to look better now, but are still noticeable when using sniper rifles. Just make sure to reset the graphics settings once after updating the game.
Enemy AI feels much better now, especially on lower difficulty settings, e.g. NPCs actually notice that you kill the guy next to them even when using silencers, or actually run for cover, etc.
You can now salvage weapons without looting.
The Anglers have been reworked and don't instantly one-shot you when playing solo anymore.
The Neutral:
Random encounters spawn more often and you get a bit more variety now.
Save-scumming is pretty much still the best way to gear after leveling up, once you unlock all the merchants on the map.
The Bad:
The ammo loot bug is still there which makes it extremely annoying if you actually loot weapons instead of salvaging them.
Safehouse missions are still dropped when you log out (or crash) while they are active, but not finished.
Enemy AI still hasn't figured out to avoid or to move out of bad stuff like fire or electrical discharges. Luckily you can't beeline them into the bad stuff anymore.
Damage scaling and enemy spawns at lower levels are still awful.
Telescopes and the tourist binoculars are still stuck at the targeted location and can't be turned around.
The DNS resolver is still unreliable when connecting to the servers.
The primary display on multi-monitor setups is still not properly detected after install and the default resolution tends to be wrong as well.
Servers will most likely stay up as long as Microsoft has Red Fail in its Xbox Gamepass library. It's not like it'll cost them much to run some virtual servers for a game that is barely played.
This is definitely not AAA-game, but decent joy for 12-20 hours.
I'm playing alone and having fun.
It's much worse than Deathloop but still nice game.
So much for archivability. Games as a service.
If you're using framegen, turn it off and see how you go. It crashes for me when its on in this game. The lossless scaling version doesnt though.
Well it was on by default, but after turning that off I now have played some sessions without crashing, so let's hope that worked indeed. Thank you!
