What happened to the old Arkane?
They had some fantastic and innovative games and now they just seem to be dumping out the most mediocre stuff... Why can't they just make more games like Dishonored and Prey? You know, the games that actually gave them a name

This is made by Arkane Austin, which is a different team. Those behind Dishonored and Prey are Arkane Lyon.

The company on the whole is experimenting, which is something you'd expect in a creative medium. They can't always land bangers, and most creative teams get a bit sick of hashing out the same "winning" formula over and over. After two Dishonoreds, it made sense that they'd want to try out Deathloop, and it's sort of expected that if they're looking to expand, the new studio would want to try and establish itself by paying homage to certain mechanics while doing its own thing.

As for the actual writers and designers behind Dishonored and Prey - a good chunk of them followed Raphael Colantonio at Wolfeye Studios, which produced last year's Weird West.

Haven't played Redfall yet, so I have no opinion on the matter.

Arkane Austin made Prey genius. Before that and DH2, it was just one team. Lol

Thanks for correcting me. The gist of my post still stands, however. Maybe Arkane's going to come up with another winning formula, someday.

Honestly love each new game more then the last. Love how they are able to focus on characters more and ditched tired morality systems. Cole was by far my favorite protagonist they have made yet.

Wasn't a fan of deathloop. the gameplay just wasn't my style. The story, setting, and characters were fine just wasn't a fan of the game play. dishonered and prey on the other hand.. Had a blast with those. I'll be trying out redfall tomorrow to form my own opinions.

Deathloop was a great game, so the old Arkane is still alive and kicking.

Respectuflly, I disagree.

I think Both Deathloop and next Redfall are both innovative games. Deathloop's story was cool, the way the game played out was unique with playing through multiple times to figure out everything you need to do in order to kill everyone in one go and get out. The entire game by itself was interesting and rather unique, then they added the multiplayer aspect on it where occasionally you're hunted by another player, potentially resetting you to waking up on the beach. The game had a good selection of abilities and guns and ways to make a build out of them.

Obviously we haven't played Redfall yet, but everything I've seen lines up. First, the vampire take is one that hasn't really been done before in the genre, much like mimics(Prey) being used for horror. We've also seen the typical Arkane cleverness, like UV light tools.

Dead, gone, forgotten, buried in the past, erased from memory, lost to time, faded into obscurity, nothing left to be said, a distant memory, absent from existence, a relic of the past, vanished without a trace, consigned to oblivion, wiped from the record, left behind and discarded, relegated to history, a footnote in the annals of time, a ghost of what once was, passed into legend, a relic of a bygone era, a memory long since faded, pushed aside and forgotten, relegated to the dustbin of history, no longer remembered, a thing of the past, a remnant of lost time, consigned to the forgotten depths, relegated to the shadows, a memory that's faded away, a vestige of a lost age, no longer relevant, a thing of distant memory, obscured by the passage of time, cast aside and left behind, a shadow of its former self, a mere echo of what was, now just a whisper in the wind, an echo in the void, a memory that's long since passed, a relic of forgotten lore, a forgotten dream, a silent voice in the void, a relic of a once great empire, a memory of what once was, a faded photograph of a distant land, a dream that's long since passed, a ghostly apparition of what was, a long forgotten thought, an echo of a forgotten time, a memory that's been lost, a vestige of a distant past, a shadow that's been cast, a memory that's been shattered, a forgotten tale, a memory that's been obscured, a dream that's been lost, a memory that's been silenced, a forgotten treasure, a voice that's been silenced, a story that's been lost, a forgotten melody, a long lost friend, a memory that's been buried, a shadow that's been cast, a faded memory of what was, a dream that's been shattered.
