The game require you to be alway online
Even if you only play single-player

I'm have a feeling they just want to see if they can get away with it
Good news regardless I guess

Modern gaming for you.

I voiced this concern last week and no one listened... I thought it strange that they always emphasised "play solo or in co-op" but never said it was offline... it sounds more like a live service like Destiny where you "could" play solo but you're always on a server.

Do you guy plan to not have internet when buying a game and also play it 70 years from launch?
I'm pretty sure everyone here it's online 24/7.

Do you really think this game will be supported and have servers 2 years after release? Maybe... Maybe not...

it's probably a peer to peer coop with random events and stuff so if one day they decide to close the servers which i highly doubt, there will be no problems.
And yes, if they keep working on the game and people playing it, which probably will be the case, yes, they will continue.
Two years are short.

If it was a Bethesda only game, i would have concerns but Microsoft is know for support games for a long time, State of Decay 2 you can play offline and for 4 years they updated the game with content.

To add something know for a few gamers, Sunset Overdrive even after Sony acquiring the IP rights, Microsoft still keep the servers online, its not a peer to peer multiplayer.

I personally hope for the best, but I am very skeptical. Id love to see the game be a huge hit, bring some unique game play ideas and have continued success.. But, as I said, I am skeptical, and for multiple reasons, which I have mentioned ad nauseum (not in this thread).
