Fix for gear down reverse bug?

Just curious if there's a way to fix the gear issues. Ex; when you're going slow, if you're in 4th gear and hitting gear down 3 times, you end up in reverse instead of 1st gear because the game goes from 4th gear to 1st gear....

It's SUPER annoying and I really have no idea how such a despicable and disgusting bug could have made it into the game... (I refuse to call it a 'feature')

Here I am thinking it was DSX after losing positions and races because of such a bug.
