Stop Microsoft trying to link to Steam account

Every time I start this game, it tries to link my XBox account to my Steam account (by starting the Steam overlay). Is there a way to permanently disable that step ?

No it is mandatory I'm afraid, the game uses your X-Box account to log in and give you the ability to play online with friends. Why do you not want it to happen?

Its only required when you open the game for the first time , you link and after you close the game and open it next time you can click on "Continue" whether online or offline :)

It is not mandatory because I can close the overlay and play the game.
I just want the message to stop popping up in order to prevent accidentally clicking to link them. Is that possible ?

It clearly states on the store page a MS account is required. You must have linked it already and have some sort of bug.

I am not sure I've seen your particular bug. Usually when it asks you to login, you must. And sometimes it does this infinite loop thing that you have to fix. But you don't sound like you have the same issue.

Well the constant pop up is telling you it is indeed mandatory, sorry. If you want to play the game carefree you have no choice.

If I understand correctly he does not want to link the accounts and asks if there is a way to prevent it (there's not), so this is not the result of a bug.

An XBox/Microsoft account is mandatory, but the linking to one's Steam account is not, because how else would I be able to play without it ?

I'm as surprised as you it is even possible to play without linking the accounts. I've been searching around the internet but can't find a single other case of anyone wanting to prevent it yet.

To play the game you must link your steam account to a MS account. That is what is puzzling me.

How far are you into the game? In game does it show you your MS account name?

I've just started, I'm in the second spring now and I've redeemed all free cars so I have a lot of them now :) In game it shows my MS account yes.

I found this FAQ on the Forza site that states the link is required, not sure how it is still possible for you to play the game without doing it but I highly doubt you can make that request go away. You can however unlink it again after you're done playing the game if you wish to do so:

So yup, seems like you linked it in the past, and the game knows, but the launcher/inbetween thing is confused.

You are in a unique spot, you could try linking it again to see if it makes it go away.

Normally after it is linked you are not asked again.

Here, here! Not linking every Account with any other is one of my hobbies and indeed it has to become a passion if you really mean it. Not to say an obsession.

Btw: when I read this I can't belive that there are so many people out there unaware of the difference between needing an MS account and linking it to Steam: The first one wants to bind your game progress and all your game statistics and behaviour to your MS account (however: even that is nothing that should be mandatory) whereas the second one lets Microsoft access your Steam Account data as well. That's what this is all about, data collection.

I think you should be aware of such mechanisms nowadays and I don't think not wanting it is a very exotic need. And before you ask: Yes, I'm German, we have a data protection fetish 😋

I've been X'ing out of the account link popup every time it comes up, and it hasn't affected my ability to play the game at all. As far as I know it'd just allow your MS account to access your Steam friends.

You are not required to link your Steam and Microsoft accounts to play the game. You are only required to have a microsoft account to start.
