Dedicated topic for Racing Steering Wheels
In this topic we share anything regarding Racing Wheels experience in FH4.
We can say FH4 is an amazing car game and it should be absolutely even better experience playing with Steering Wheels that playing with a keyboard or gamepad but this isnt the case for most of the people who tried Steering Wheels.

There are too many questions on why playing this game with a Steering Wheel is actually bad experience and whats the roots of it.
The reasons might be:
  1. mechanical/quality part of the wheel;
  2. software or the lack of software;
  3. USB Ports;
  4. input lag/delay;
  5. game settings for the wheel;
  6. diving mechanics or car mechanic;
  7. game mechanics in general;
  8. driving conditions and car parts;
  9. poor or limited compatibility/support of some wheels;
  10. poor or limited game optimization for wheels;
  11. inexperience with steering wheels;
  12. operation range of the wheels;
  13. Steam ports or any other platform;

So like myself who owns a Logitech G923, I cant tell which is the reason to I have the worst control of a car
Using a keyboard feels perfect, but in this game when using a wheel I start to lose traction, drift and spin out and have absolutely no chance to save it, feels like my car ignores my wheel.
In general it feels fake and kinda gives me the sensation of input lag and that my operation range is 180.

I will keep experimenting different settings but it would help your feedback.

It could just be the Steam port. I've been using a G27 and a G920 since FH3 and now on FH4 and the game feels just fine. Everything works and it is responsive as a game like this can be. It feels pretty much 1:1.

Take in mind that when using keyboard and controller, the game doesn't give you full control. It has to compensate for either the lack of analog input by limiting how much input or speed of said input is applied. With keyboard and controller, the faster you go, the less input the game will allow. You cannot lock the steering at all. The game varies these input depending on the circumstance.

With the steering wheel, you will have full control of the car. You can even lock the wheels form end to end while going full speed. Recovering from an oversteer will also require much more reaction speed from your part. Remember that the steering wheel will no longer be a thumb stick or button that you can hit in an instant.

The level of simulation in this game isn't as sophisticated as other games which focus solely on this aspect, but it is pretty well polished to the point of being very enjoyable and functional. This doesn't mean that you'll get the best results immediately after switching to one. It requires practice and building muscle memory. For some people this takes months to get used to. But once you do, there really isn't no other way of playing the game. It truly gives you the best experience.

Some other people never get used to it and just decide to shrug it off and deem it unnecessary.

i do have a question on FH4 friendly steering wheels...can you map the acelletation and break to buttons on the wheel,im physically disabled and have no sense of feeling in my legs/feet,nor muscle strength in them,i always used the dual shock for games like gran turismo series and ridge racer type 4 but id love to be able to adapt the wheel,thankyou if you have an answer!

Logitech g29 feels terrible for steam version. Massive micro-stutters. I've tried '' E V E R Y T H I N G ''

G923 here. I have to rotate my wheel at least 90 degrees either way of center before anything happens. Not exactly a deadzone, but a very low sensitivity near center. Not to mention that 1 or 2 degrees deadzone in dead center. Tried almost everything, including xpertgamingtech's G29 settings.
Also The game randomly crashes after every 20-30 minutes of gameplay if the G923 connected. When it's not connected, the games works fine and doesn't crash, I can play for hours with keyboard.
I do not have either of these problem on any other games.

It's the same for me, XpertGaming is my friend and he said that he uses the Microsoft Version, which supports wheel 100%. FFB is all good there, but steam version is trash.

That's sad to hear. I hope this will be solved soon.

I just installed Forza Horizon 4 Free Demo from Microsoft Store and guess what, Even without force freeback, The G923 is perfectly responsive on FH4 Demo. Looks like this is an issue with The Steam Version of FH4.
(Demo didn't recognize my G923 so i had to manually bind it.)
