Also, I didn't beat the game yet with the full VO but I saw some comments from those who didn't like Finn's VO as well, and people claim it's getting better. Probably it is somehow connected to the development of the protagonist as he is slowly turning from an inexperienced and scared young boy to a confident man.
How's the game, by the way?
I also agree that Finn had a few bright spots, so the VA does have a bit of talent. Maybe it's worth re-doing some of his lines only?
It's pretty hard, a lot of time and work and also money which we don't have. Also, even if it's a few lines, there's a minimal fee for actors, like 400 pounds or something like that. Thus, unfortunately, every single piece of the VO will remain unchanged. But it's really nice to hear that you did like the VO overall. I hope you liked the game as well.
Most of the voice actors range from decent to pretty good, but Finn's is horrific. Some lines he literally reads so deadpan it's impossible for me to think he's actually aware he's voicing a character. Like, "BOY. UNCLE. I. SURE. AM. SCARED. I. AM. NOT. SURE. ABOUT. THIS. BUT. I. MUST. HELP."
I'm not trying to be mean, because I know this can get costly, but it's like he's not even trying. There's guys off of a fiver who would at least try.
I will say the audio quality is good, very clear and easy to understand. Sounds like he's got a good mic at least.
I believe we did everything we could, we are a small team which barely managed to make a voice over at all and we can't control the record process. But I personally had a brief call with every actor to tell about their characters. It's a shame that Finn didn't manage to satisfy everyone but I think he did a good job based on circumstances and limits we had.
Still, I hope you are enjoying the game and there are at least some positive things you can share :)
It's a catch 22. If the game was bad, then people wouldn't care as much about a bad voice actor. But since the game is good, the bad voice actor stands out.
But it sounds like you did your due diligence interviewing 10+ people.
