How will AI evaluate images? It accepts absolutely everything right now.

SuchArt is different in this way that you are not fighting to "beat" the game. It's about discovering, having fun messing around and improving / getting satisfied with your own art, in a way which is not that different from actual really life painting or drawing. It's still more than a pure sandbox though, I believe, as there is progress, characters, missions, story etc. But how you want to paint your paintings is up to you: *you* are the genius artist, after all :)

As for letting other humans evaluating your paintings... well the game is strictly single player, at least for now. But even if some kind of multiplayer/sharing mechanic is ever introduced, I think it should be done in a way which can only encourage positive feedback, and it shouldn't be a game progress mechanic anyway. It's just all too easy to hurt others there, whether it is on purpose or not, and this is really not what I want to achieve with this game.

if they dont valuate a bit of what they ask for then the game is pointless for anything else then sandbox/free play.

How's an AI gonna evaluate it even in the best case scenario? Neural Network training to see how close it is to classic art pieces? How strictly you obey stuff like rule of thirds? Complimentary colors? Just restricts creativity, hurts immersion, and ruins fun.

Only metric that would make much sense is time spent.

Should have made it a multiplayer aspect where you can flag your studio for invasion and people can hop in at will as robots.

Having other people vote on your stuff would be horrible. I could make a good drawing but if it's not along the lines that someone else would like so they would hate it just cause.

So you'd rather a robot that just spits out a random likert scale response? I doubt people are gonna hate genuinely good artwork unless you're a furry or something and even then you can bask in their seethe.

Comments like yours are EXACTLY why other players should not be able to vote on your art. There's already enough people in the world giving out hate without the need for having people online spread that hate onto you as well

cool. then i can just make a dot, and still get currency to unlock new stuff.
I really hope you devs consider VR in the future.. i cant paint for ♥♥♥♥, but i will buy this game anyway cause its very beautiful and relaxing. if it had VR, it would be 100 times easier and more emersive to paint.

If you're afraid of criticism as an artist, then you shouldn't really try being an artist, or at the very least you should never show your art to anyone. Art is such a subjective world, you'll never be an artist that everyone would love.

Good job on creating a dialogue.

Realistically speaking. If this game had a multiplayer, the developer could simply put a thumbs up or thumbs down rating on submitted artwork when a group of players who play as an artist have to create something to a theme. Maybe just put in a single thumbs up rating for those extremely sensitive. Your feelings won't be hurt (unless you have paper made of skin) as ratings are completely ambiguous besides the person enjoying the art or not. OP's original comment of people rating a piece of artwork down "just cause" just seems somewhat unrealistic. Not only does this game appeal to a very very small community of people, a coordinated bombardment of your art being rated tremendously down to the point where your ratings tank in the game seems unrealistic and just in general, rare.

I was definitely callous in my phrasing and ill still continue to be, but if I take OP's point being related to feelings being hurt, that's on you on how you handle it. You'd be ignorant to think being an artist is in lanes of being inside a safe space unless you exclusively post in a niche community. Art is nothing but opinions and interpretations.

Being an artist (for me) is being comfortable with expressing yourself no matter what and hearing what people think about your art, not for being excessively coddled for. I mean, visit any art museum and you'll have a myriad of positive and negative thoughts about art you see.

If OP's point was simply about trolls ruining the game, eh sure, it could be possible. Though as I said, I don't see anyone's game being ruined other than the player count simply dying. I know trolls can be petty, but in a game like this when there are so many preventative measures the developer could implement.

Of course, this game isn't going for any actual serious art vibe, so who gives a ♥♥♥♥ about what im saying anyway.

Sure, I get you and I do agree actually. But SuchArt is a videogame, not an actual painting program (you have Krita, Photoshop, or many others for this), and one of the core ideas since the beginning is to let people enjoy painting and drawing without pressure :) It's a game to relax and have some fun, not to feel pressured or judged by an algorithm or by fellow human beings :) And this is an aspect most people seem to genuinely enjoy in the game, so far.

Well that's good to hear then. Just to be clear to others, I was just talking about in abstraction if this game or any other game went down this route of running a serious art gallery, because I don't think any game really has. It'd be neat if a game ever attempted a more serious path of an artist going from rags to riches to progress to more expensive art venues where there was a multiplayer component that dictated a players progress. It does however sound like a headache to get right to get players to actually progress, because AI judging art would just be a bit underwhelming at times since you could just figure out how to manipulate it for the best outcomes.

I feel like it could potentially evolve into something with real world currency with the rise of stuff like NFT's too.

I guess the closest I can maybe think of this being the case is Dreams, but everything there are just monthly competitions everyone can join to create anything at all, but that has no actual progression.

Well, my rambling is over. I'm looking forward to check this game out at any rate.

I loved the game. and as i said before, i cant paint, at all.
but seeing what "can" be created in this game, i will take up some bob ross videos on youtube and try to go with how he does it and hope for the best lol.
if a VR version ever comes out, and its not free. i will still buy it, full price. <3
