I do know that the painting codes for the art gallery are in the save data and their names match their image file in the save folder, but not sure how to move them from one file to another without causing a corruption error.
I have found a bootleg way to transfer Paintings between Save files. It takes a bit of fiddling with files, but it's not too hard.
Step 1: Load the game file you want to Transfer a Painting to. (AKA, End Destination)
Step 2: Start a Canvas of the EXACT same size and proportions of the painting you wish to transfer. (This is important, if you try to use a different sized canvas it will corrupt your game data.)
Step 3: Draw something on the blank Canvas. Anything. It doesn't matter because it will be erased later, this is a placeholder for identifying which file it is. Just make sure you remember what it looks like.
Step 4: Send the Canvas to your Virtual Gallery, go into the Gallery and place it on a wall anywhere.
Step 5: Save and Exit the Game, and Close the Game.
---------Now for Some File Editting--------
Step 6: Travel to the Folder Path: Local Disk (C:) > Users > (Your PC Profile Name here) > AppData > LocalLow > Voolgi > SuchArt > Saves
Step 7: In the Saves folder, Saves are saved based on the Save number ingame. If the Save is in the first slot (0) then the Folder your save is in will be "slot_0"
What you want to do for this step is go into the folder corresponding to the save file that has the Painting you wish to transfer, and open the "maps" folder.
Step 8: Look for the Painting you wish to transfer in this folder. Do not make any changes to it yet, when found. Just Right-click and Copy it.
Step 9: Go back to the Saves folder, and enter the folder that corresponds to the Save slot that you want to Transfer the painting to. Open the maps folder here now.
Step 10: Look for that painting you created back in Steps 2, 3 and 4. If you are in the right save folder, it should be in here. Move this File out of the folder onto your desktop or somewhere safe (DO NOT DELETE IT just in case the transfer fails and corrupts your save.)
Step 11: Paste the Copied Painting that you intend to Transfer here into the new "maps" folder. You should see your painting appear here. But do not close this folder, trying to load as is will corrupt your save.
Step 12: Rename the Transferred painting to the EXACT name of the file you moved out of the folder (It has to be exact, down to the capital letters and underscores that are in it).
Step 13: You should now be able to load the game, go into the Destination save file, and see the transferred painting in the Virtual Gallery exactly where you placed the dummy painting.
-------Note------
If there is any corruption, the game will let you know at the save-select and won't let you load the file. If this happens, simply place the file you moved out of the folder back into the appropriate "maps" folder, double-check that it works again, and try again from step one. I have had 1 corruption out of 5 transfers, and I think the corruption was my fault because I painted on the sides of the canvas. This is something to keep in mind, that it may give you a problem.
Questions:
Q: Will this work with any other image file?
A: This CAN work with other image files I think? But you have to crop the image file to the EXACT measurement size of the file you're replacing in the folder as well. There's a much higher chance for corruption if you do not have the exact file type and resolution size.
(In my opinion I wouldn't do this because it defeats the purpose of the game which is to create your own art, instead of passing off someone else's as your own. But to each their own, you do you.)
Q: I used Metallic/Glitter Paints on my painting, will this work as well?
A: Yes but there may be extra files in the folder you need to transfer as well. Things to note:
1. If the file you are transferring does use Metallic or Glitter Paint, make sure to add a bit of the same kind to your dummy painting before uploading it to the Gallery as well.
2. When finding the Painting you wish to transfer, remember to find its "metallic" counterpart. It'll say metallic in the name of the file. Remember to copy the names exactly from the dummy paintings to the transferred one as well and don't mix them up.
3. I think Metallic paintings have a higher chance of corruption as well just because the metallic shine seems to call up a separate file texture, you have to be careful with these more I think.
Q: When I loaded the game back up, it was still the old dummy painting, and the maps folder has the old one back.
A: Steam Cloud is on and reloaded the last known save file backup you had. I would suggest turning Cloud saves off for Steam before you start Step 1, then turn it back on when you are done if you wish.
Then yea sure a visual tutorial would probably be better if you can do that. I made a step by step, because I couldn't find anything on it. So if you make a YT video of it, we can spread the word and help others who had this issue.
The youtube video is now uploaded. Sadly I have the game on epic and not on steam so I cant post it to this games community page. However at least it is out now. Here is the link to the video https://youtu.be/nNCJYvq52Bc hope this helps you all.
Nice, this does work.
I should note that you have to be careful when doing it while the game is still up. It CAN cause corruptions, and I have caused one before while leaving it up. Like a lot of other games, it doesn't like you to mess with its files while it's open. So I think for safety's sake, just close the game while doing the file editting/switching. Then re-open it when you are ready to see the transfer.
