Fishing difficulties?

Unsure if I'm doing something wrong, if this is just an especially difficult fishing minigame, or if everything is fine and I'm only struggling due to having tourette's syndrome.

I have bait, I go up to the water and select the fish spot, choose bait, and the fishing bar pops onscreen. It responds as I'd expect, but I Can't catch anything. I switched from controller to keyboard, and I can't hit enough arrow keys before the bar drains and the fish gets away.

With tourettes, I know I'm prone to tic and hit an erroneous key and fail, this happens constantly. But I've been reloading saves near fish shadows for over a half hour, haven't caught a single fish, and can consistently hit 4 correct keys before the bar drains. (I might be getting 5, but it's real narrow timing.) What has me questioning is this old development video, where fish are caught after only two prompts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94jPwxz7lPE

Maybe something changed since that video a year ago, maybe I'm doing something wrong, maybe I'm out of luck and wasting my time due to a disability. There's not much footage online yet to compare it to, so I figure asking here is my best bet.

You just have to hit the arrow button it shows you as it shows you them before time runs out. Oh and you need to get a certain amount of them done. If you press the wrong button then the game ends.

There's a success rate of catching a fish. Fish at night because you'll have a higher chance at catching it. During the day, the success is low. Try that

Thanks for the info! Unfortunately, after trying more, it does seem like it's a me problem and my motor tics are making it extra difficult

Can I ask if there's an upgraded fishing rod to craft eventually, or better bait, basically anything else that would extend the time for a catch? I'm sure I'll end up sitting down and grinding out fishing on a day my hands are more stable either way.

You can make an iron fishing rod to get better fish, there's a god statue that never loses your bait, and you can catch 2x fish. But never to extend the fishing timer unfortunately

That's a shame, I'll have to wait til I'm doing well enough physically to get as many fish as I can in one go. Some feedback I guess, if you plan on adjusting things or adding accessibility options in a later patch. Really loving the rest so far

I will add more timer duration in the story more. +5 seconds to everything

Hey steck your monitors hz rate, I tried with 300 hz and fishing was impossible as timers were something like 1 second.

I was just thinking about this again, but for a totally unrelated reason, and yeah, i got 300 hz as well.
I didn't think about that because the rest of the game runs reasonably. But I have two save files set up, one somehow with 60 hours, and the second I started in story mode with over 100 hours. This is impossible, my logged steam time is under 60 hours. I timed the fishing minigame since there's been 5 seconds added, and some of these timers are lower than 5 seconds.

I never even questioned it until last night when I was looking for optional stuff I missed. (Finished the main game, loved it, was too busy playing to come back here about this lol)

Haha, love this story! I second quessed myself many times as I was sure that either there is something that I don't get or I have to gid gud, but as I tried several times with different setups I was getting ready to leave negative review as game is too hard for me. :D Funny bug, the dev should probably lock fps to 60 hz if he cant easily change timers from hz based as I think game doesn't really get much from higher rates.

How many do I have to get done? I've done it a bunch of time, but even though I manage to do a sequence of 3 or 4 before it runs out, it fails.
