Game doesnt start
Hi there,
i bought the game and installed it. I wanted to start it but than i had to install something more... i did it ^^.
Now if i start the Game, i get a blackscreen with a white big square in, and than the game stopped. Nothing more happend.

First i thought because of my ressolution and i set it down to 1920*1080px and than to 1280*1024px. But it will be the same issue.

Can anyone help?

The game is working fine for me on win 10.

Did it prompt you guys to install Direct Play or whatever? It had to do one for me.

Also you should all post your system specs

Check in the installation folder for the options exe.

I thought the game has a high of 1024x768 resolution and when windows asks to let steam boot strapper work (or whatever the hell it's called) then you need to click "allow".

Oh and my specs aren't nothing fancy,

i5 8500 (3ghz six core)
16GB mem
GTX 1660
Win 10
1080p monitor.

If running a 4k monitor that could be a problem and because i play so many older games i keep supersampling off for my video card.
I did some digging on the GoG forums, these are suggestions by other users, good luck.

1) Maybe Direct Play is off?

"Open Control Panel

Click on Programs and Features.

Upper Left click "Turn Windows Features On or Off".

When the list populates find Legacy Components, you might have to scroll down.

Click the tiny PLUS to the left of Legacy Components.

There is Direct Play item in there and make sure it is CHECKED. Click OK."

2) Try running as EXE as admin and compatibility for XP.

"1. Right-click the game shortcut launcher then select properties
2. Select Compatibility tab
3. At the top, click on the button called "Run compatibility troubleshooter"
4. Select "Try recommended settings"
5. Select "Test the program". It should run. If it does exit the game and click on save settings.
Enjoy your KKND."

Yes i installed the next thing (Direct Play) if i started the Game at first time.
Nothing more happened... Steam Bootstrapper hasnt ask me.

@American Beetle:
I will try these steps in the next hours or maybe days. Thanks for help till now.

I'm stuck here as well. Tried all the options and no beans.
Tried to add -safe and -windowed in launch options via Steam but still no beans. It's an instant crash like the one mentioned here.
Are the Devs able to help?
IceReaper Jul 25, 2020 @ 9:43am
The devs? No. They left the company almost back in the 90s and the source code is lost since then. Have you tried kwip? Its an hd patch build on top of another kknd2.exe which according to some people behaves differently.

Hey IceReaper, Thanks for the answer. No I haven't trip kwip - what is it?

is there a way to increase resolution of the game?
The only resolution options it has are in the game folder inside ‘options’ menu

You can try lowering it, but it’s probably not the problem.

Although some people have the game out of bounce so it helps.

To run the game in "Administrator Mode" with the "compatibility setting to Win8" works for me.
Thanks for your help :)
