Ways to Improve Townscaper
Introduction:

Townscaper is already a neat little game that looks fantastic and is a lot of fun. However, Townscaper has yet to unlock its full potential and with these improvements, it could go from good to great.

Different Settings:

Currently, the only option available is an ocean style similar to Venice. However, a mountainous, arctic, desert, plains, (maybe even underwater) and savanna setting would add a lot to the game.

Different Themes:

Right now, the only theme is a modern, pastel colored set of buildings. Why not introduce an ancient, medieval, industrial, and modern theme, in addition to the current one, which could be called Original (or something similar to that).

Unique Buildings and Shops:

There should be three types of buildings you can construct: Houses, Shops, and Unique Buildings. They would all be easily selected through hotkeys, and there would be a limited variety of them, so the player wouldn't have to navigate through menu after menu to find what they want.

For example, if someone selected the Medieval theme and Plains setting, the House available would simply be a small, wooden house common in the Middle Ages. The Shops available would be meat, bread, fish, vegetables, and others. When selecting Shop and then clicking where you want to place it, it would randomly generate one of the options. The Unique Buildings would be a farm, windmill, and barn that you could select and then place.

Different Grid Templates:

Currently, the spaces where you place houses are in a set pattern that you cannot alter. I believe that this is good, and helps add to the beauty of the game. However, before you create your town, you should be able to choose what grid you want, whether it be concentric circles, purely square, or the default one.

People and First Person:

Adding people and animals that just wander around the town would be cool. In addition to that, a first-person mode where you shrink to the size of one of the townsfolk, and can walk around admiring your work would be neat.

Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS:

We need it. Townscaper being available for Linux and mobile would be nice, but shouldn't be a priority until the game comes out of early access. Many people want to buy the game but can't because they have a Mac (myself included).

Conclusion:

Townscaper is a really cool game, that just needs some more features to make it truly fantastic. With these additions, it would be great for dungeon masters, gamers of all kinds, artists, and many more!

i think adding too many settings would make the game too complex to be a toy

Different styles of building could be fun too, like buildings based on various cultures?

I love it as it is, and I worry that adding too many features it will lose the very essence of why we love this simple little town builder.

I do wish I could drag an area though. If I left-click drag an area, it builds and if I right-click drag an area it demolishes. I feel that would be a quality of life feature that would enhance without adding too much.

In my opinions , the feature of Townscapers are both beautiful artistic conception and low-machine require.
I really expect the function of small people and animals or separating out the different functions of the house.
But i really worry about that this function will reduce the features of the nice game.

I actually like this idea. Start the game and get to choose what the design you are going to be working with that session. The actual game itself wouldn't change, only the terrain and the buildings that are popping up. Want the original game? Click Classic Buildings with Water Biome and you are playing the game we have right now. Want an Oriental feel, click Imperial Japan with Grassland Biome.

I would love to see trees, grasslands, desert, and maybe even underwater biomes. The possibilities are endless for a nice little game like this. It could become an entire series of fun little city builders.

The idea of building a Medieval city with walls and barracks and everything would just... That would be so much fun. And I know, it would be the same exact game in a different visual wrapper, but I have always been fascinated with Medieval architecture and to be able to build a city with a few clicks of the mouse would be an extra thrill to some people. Nothing new, just something extra.

The building types/architectures don't even need to be mingled, that would throw it off I think. I think it should be an all or nothing when you first start the game. Either you are building Venice, or Ancient Rome. Imperial Japanese or Middle Ages York. You toggle what and where you are building and that is it.

I know not everyone will like the idea, but the fun of the Steam Forums is the fact this is the wishlist for people to discuss their ideas and hopes for a game. This idea caught my fancy, because... Medieval!

Overall, great game, am enjoying it so far

Oh, and I absolutely love the idea about getting to choose the grid pattern. Too many times I am building something and hit the 5 or 6 grid star and it just makes your building look strange lol Being able to build a simple, straight grid of a city, while probably not as appealing to the eye, would please that part of me that wants to see what it would look like in a nice, boxy, SimCity style of layout.

I like this idea, it would allow more variety withgout cluttering the UI.
I want to be able to drag to draw, to have more diversity of buildings, terrain and landscapes.

This is a great idea but I feel it should be a separate game. Townscaper: Medieval or similar.

Linux works great through proton. Literally no tinkering is needed you just press install and play.
