Sandbags: how to place them?

Playing with a game controller, during the last tutorial I got stuck trying to place sandbags, as suggested by this tutorial. When I choose sandbag on the bottom (it is available, no red cross or cooldown) and press A I can see a red marker around a red sandbag that I can move around with the stick. When I place it on one of the yellow dots the sandbag becomes green. But nothing happens when I press A or any other button, while I do have the money. Same problem with the mouse. I can't place the sandbag anywhere.

So, how do you place these sandbags? Thanks!

Couple of reasons why:

1. You need ground forces in line with the sandbags. You cannot place sandbags or similar defensive structures ahead of your ground forces.
2. If the yellow dot is dark, there is an obstacle preventing the sandbag from being placed - could be natural cover, a recently destroyed sandbag or even a friendly turret.

You "should" be able to place a sandbag on any dot that is light yellow - if you are unable to do this my only advice is to restart it or submit feedback (F8 ingame).
