Part of it are the planet upgrades I think. I lost so many runs to getting no weapon upgrades for several levels in a row. Why would I pick "Max HP Up" if everything kills me in one hit?
Suggestion: Add a 'pity' mechanic so that the player is guaranteed at least one upgrade to an existing weapon every 2 levels. And maybe bias the probabilities so that upgrades to existing weapons/planets drop more often than things you already rejected several times.
It works too
