How does experience gain work?
I've played through six times now and I still don't get how experience is earned. I know you are supposed to make decisions in line with your convictions, but in practice I am not seeing much of a difference. I was playing a vampire whose conviction is "the strong must rule the weak" and finished Camp Scheffler by supporting the program (blech), succeeded in basically every skill check, got double pay for delivering the pelican case, got to suck Olivecrona, and somehow only gained 4 xp. How does this even work?

Fulfilling your Convictions just refills spent willpower.

Experience is gained for completing missions (and sometimes based on how well you do), or stuff that you might think of as 'bonus objectives' (like buying a new Haven gives you some xp, the more expensive the Haven the more the xp), or doing things that would increase your Humanity if you already have max Humanity.

5 xp seems to be the basic amount you get for completing a mission. There's also a 1 xp point penalty for learning new disciplines from another vampire. So, if you completed the in Camp Scheffler mission for the Camarilla, and unlocked Olivecrona's disciplines as a reward, you could end up with just 4 xp for the mission.

I don't know for certain, but maybe the more camp data you get the better the xp reward for that mission? I know of some stuff like that is in other missions. For example, taking the xeno-sheep blood sample from Invidia Caul's ranch for yourself gives you a xp bonus of (your Technology skill +1) at the end of the mission. (I only found that one out by examining the game files.)

Hope that helps.

I think experience in this game is milestone-based. Once you reach certain point in the story, you get xp. Its not according to stuff you do, as much, at least I dont think so.

I've finished 22 playthroughs now I think, and it definitely seems to be based on how well you do, or how much you do, or something other than just ending a mission.
