For split-screen multiplayer over the internet, all you need is to set up Steam's Remote Play Together and change the game mode in the Options menu to Multiplayer.
For online multiplayer there's a community-maintained Workshop item: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2094059600
but, after reading and looking for it on the net, i found this video, so, for those, who might get here, and wish to play only in a "coop" mode, here is a fast and short (and i think is an "easy") answer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byqv_haFA8s
although i tried out this version, it seemed to me, that this way requires a controller, since this makes the game to be played THROUGH streaming mode.
https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=2094059600
and with this, the steps are the following:
1. register to
https://elma.online
2. then, start the game, the mod will pop up first, log in with the registered account (the same nickname and password), in the "default settings" check the options
show others
show to others
3. press the save and exit button, which will start the game.
4. in the main menu you should set it to SINGLE PLAYER mode.
now, when you start a level, the friend You want to play with must be at the same level. and, if your internet connection is okay, and You logged in, then you should see each other.
THIS IS "BATTLE MODE" (which could be called race mode, i think :D).
if you press F5 (for me its F4), then the online player list will show, also, who is on which level.
5. If You want to play "COOP MODE", then go back into the main menu, set it to multiplayer mode, set the flag tag on/off (right now i don't remember which one is the one that is the correct one, sorry), and then you both start the level, and one of you press F8 (to me its F7), then you have to type in your friends name, which will INVITE HIM to a "multiplayer mode". when he accepts, from then on you are connected and are able to play coop mode.
that's it. :)
hope i could help ;)
