That seems to be the case.

I can't recall a single game that's similar to this (not in terms of gameplay, I'm sure there are many similar puzzle games like this), and I found it very charming for what it is and it didn't overstay its welcome.

If you did, did you find any of them as charming as Helltaker? So to you it's all about the vibe then and not the gameplay itself? I mean, if Helltaker was point-and-click 30 minutes quest, it would stay as charming because of the characters and dialogues to you? Just trying to understand the mentality behind. Thank you for your time.

Difference here is pricing. Helltaker is completely free and I had no reason to not give it a try.

I never played these games (although I've heard of them), and considering that I already gambled with genres I'm not into.... I don't think I ever will.

Well this game is short and plot is Nah,but this game is not supposed to be taken seriously Dude just wanted to create a game about demon Girls and see how Internet reacts to it.He did it and it was a huge success.Main reasons why it's popular:
1.It's Free
2.Cute demon waifus
3.Developer actually put effort in it(everything is hand drawn).
4.Horny teenagers(guys like me like big bazonkas and ases.)

Even if you don't like the game you will lose nothing except your time.

there was a post on Reddit a few days ago that could have assisted in a recent pop in the game since it was on a popular sub, althought I don't recall which sub it was that could explain a jump in downloads. That is where I found the game and why I downloaded it.

It's free to play, the dev clearly cares about the game, the soundtrack is banging and the characters are well-drawn and there's enough of them you'll probably like one of them. It's 'fun'.

The style is great, you rarely see a well drawn game like this. And it's light to play, you don't need to pay, you don't need to follow complicated storyline or play 5-hour tutorial mission.

a big reason it exploded in populaity is subverted expectations
the whole game's initial description hints that it was going to be a lewd hentai dating sim

but when people tried it out they discovered it was a wholesome expreience of befriending cute and immortal girls and doing a lot of shenanigans in the process. this pleasnt surprise is what made helltaker so noteworthy.

it took the "i dont want to be horny anymore, i just want to be funny" to its ultimate conclusion
