I think he should still be alive somehow, because Lucy wonders what he is doing right now, maybe he really is with Beelzebub and one of the reasons for Loremasters researches are to get him back even if she doesen´t state it herself, but for that to be known for us we need a new dlc, a sequel or the comics to get to that part

That's also what I thought since they didn't mention anything about Helltaker being dead
