Fixed Main Character ... what would make it good / bad ?
Hello all,

for me it seems DIsciples: Liberation sounds more like a spin-off to the main series of what ended with Disciples 3.

A single main character was never the focus of the entire set of campaigns for any of the main series games which either had your choice of custom character, in Disciples 1+2, or a faction specific character, in Disciples 3, per campaign; although Disciples 3 was not nearly as good as its predecessor so fixed characters at least are a bit questionable.

I conclude that there will be a hefty focus on RPG elements with only some strategy elements as opposed to the main series games where it worked the opposite way.

Im not expecting a Disciples 4 anymore but the question is if the idea behind a fixed character can work or not since people are still expecting something Disciples and likely, if they played the older games, expecting something DIsciples 2.

.

In my opinion, a fixed character CAN work but to make it so, the following needs to be implemented ...

.

1. Visibly change race to Demon / Undead

We know the female main character is a human (see her ears) and there is the hint of a 'dark prophecy'.

Now, while its impossible that she grews Elf ears or gets small as a Dwarf, the game should allow you to, with choices made throughout the game and best possible in the beginning of it, change her race towards Demon or Undead.

Changing her race would allow her to basically work as the fixed but still faction related character of 3 different faction specific campaigns that branch out best at the beginning of the campaign.

If the branching out starts later than it would be bad since to play the game with a different faction, you would have to redo the entire first steps with the same maps etc. and the actual faction gameplay only gets shorter.

If she cant change race and was restricted solely to the human faction or any other faction then it wouldnt be nearly as what Disciples always stood for, meaning playing your favourite faction and favourite character.

.

2. Warrior / Guildmaster / Mage Lord / Rod Planter / Thief Hero

DIsciples 2 allowed you to pick one of these 5 distinct characters, each with their own attack and ability options.

Even if some characters were bad choices since they leveling them didnt bring any noticeable numerical improvements, they were all still integral parts of the game experience.

Disciples: Liberation should have at least the 3 major 'class' options as fully fleshed out 'skill trees' for the main character and it should be prevented to get the entire set of skills so each character is much different than a character played as another class.

What would make it bad is if the female main character was forced to only 1 class, likely fighter class from what the first teaser showed, never being able to cast spells as a Mage Lord or use ranged weapons as a Guildmaster.

.

These 2 are in my opinion the go / no go's for Disciples: Liberation.

Have a main character that is fixed to a specific faction with no choice whatsoever or fixed to one class with no choice but to look at others casting these flashy spells or using those ranged weapons and the game wont nearly meet the feeling of what Id expect from any Disciples related game.

Sincerely.

Well, the FAQ says "4 unique player classes" and "9 unique companions". The companions do not seem to be simple units so I would guess we are talking different heroes/leaders from the different factions.

Also if I had to guess I would say this is a reboot that would have similar features in the world but it would not honor all he lore that came before it which is why it doesn't have a 4 in the title.

I also hope that the main character during the game will be able to switch to the dark side, turning into a demon / undead. Without the ability to play on the side of the forces of evil, it will not be Disciples

Not sure about the metmorphosis but allying with dufferent factions is already confirmed in the FAQ:
Journey together: join forces with 4 in-game factions - from proud elven clans to remorseless undead hordes, each with their own motivations and gameplay incentives

While that is a possibility, Id rather not play as a human on the side of Elfs, Undead or the like because It feels wrong that a human could lead a non-human faction.

Visibly transforming to an undead or demon could work for those factions but not for Dwarves or Elfs and after watching the Teaser, it seems even the Human faction wouldnt want the female MC to lead them.

I hope the main character has access to these 4 'Player Classes' and that they mean 4 Classes per faction. Just a Warrior for either faction is not enough for me even if there are some differences between same Classes of different factions.

Disciples was always about choice and since the main character is fixed, the choices of Class plus Faction for the main character should compensate the vast loss created by having a fixed main character.

I wonder which of the 5 Classes was cut. Rod Planter since ther focus seems to be on RPG over Strategy ?

Yeah, I would think the rod planter is not in the game. I don't think it is in 3 as well. I am not sure if we would be able to play as the mountain clans. Ideally I would like to see the Empire, Clans, Legion and Horde as well but from the FAQ and the game description on the store page we seem to have Empire, Horde and "Elven Clans" confirmed and I would think they would go for the Legions as the final faction. Of course there might be a typo. We will likely know more later today during the kalypso media stream.

"Explore a war-torn kingdom: travel across 4 diverse environments - from luscious forests to fiery volcanic plains and icy tundra - and uncover secrets hidden in this land"

It seems that in the game we will still meet with the Mountain Clans.

I hope so. Id like to experience again how it was to die to dwarven Flamecasters.
