Mouse and Keyboard Control Problems

I'm experiencing some weird glitches with controls. I went to look at the control customisation screen (mainly to figure out what the controls are in the first place, not to actually change any), and it says I need to use mouse to navigate this menu. However, using the mouse seems to mess something up and the control customisation screen doesn't always come up straight away, then when I try to get back to the game the pop up that says 'use mouse to customise control settings' or whatever doesn't go away, and it stays there for a long time while I try and continue playing. Just now I had to force quit because once I managed to finally exit the control menu, my keyboard suddenly just wouldn't do anything at all.

Switching between mouse and keyboard when dealing with the options screens is really confusing and I don't know if I'm just misunderstanding the directions or if it's a genuine glitch (seems like a mix of both). I downloaded the beta when it first came out, and I gave up within a day because I wasn't finding the controls super accessible (I have tourettes and struggle with games that need very very precise movements), so I'm kinda disappointed that it doesn't seem to have gotten better since then.
