Hylics 2

Hylics 2

I feel like I missed something..
So I beat the game, had about 14 hours in. Killed every enemy for max flesh, Dedsmuln ended up with over 400 flesh (and I charged foam armor with him every battle so just a hair under 500) I got Bombo-Genesis, I kitted out my bois with looped domes, tarps, one gloves, peptide bodkins. I had my charge up to like 87 I think? Found all 3 paper cups, and opened every locked door I could find. Got every spell including the completely useless Teledenuate, and Fate Sandbox. Used all my appliques on Somnosa cuz I had seen the lord gibby fight and I know her charged wave artifice was gonna be the clutch for that fight. (but I have since theorycrafted that I think I can kill lord gibby in 6 turns using bombo genesis for over 300 dam per every other turn and having Dedsmuln and Pongorma focus on multi coffee use constantly and spam charged wave artifice with somnosa) I even found a few weird bones in some spots that I havent seen on any walkthroughs or lets plays.

I feel like I must be missing something?? Is there no end game? Or ultimate glove or accessory? Nothing else I can do other than see how fast I can kill Gibby? I beat another game since then which I wont mention but also loved, but I still have a hylics itch, and I have already beaten EVERY game I can think of thats even REMOTELY similar. (punkish undergroundy turn based rpg stuff)

Teledenuate is nice for removing Reactive Shield (or whatever causes "Inviolable"). It can also be used to remove "Indisposed". You can also use it to remove the "Wrapped" status from a boss enemy without angering it.

The ultimate gloves are probably Psychic Knuckles, I think you get them with no effort in the final area. The real "ultimate" end-game thing is really Bombo-Genesis, but I also found it completely unnecessary in the final boss fight.

Oh yeah I did get the psychic knucks, I just straight forgot because IDK.. FF4, I REMEMBER getting the crystal sword, It feels like a big deal. Getting one or even crazier 4 Adamant armors felt like youd done something absurd but it was a good feeling. By the end of Hylics I just wanted more stuff to meander into, idk. But I guess I did pretty much "do everything" huh. The other game I mentioned's company made an older game thats well liked so I guess ill go through that but Ive done all the grimey underground or interesting rpgs and IDK what to do to find more, guess I HAVE to work on mine some more, its just so much to do solo. x.x
Fate is a b*****d.

Where did you find a crystal sword?

I should have been more clear that I meant when playing Final Fantasy 4 (it was called 2 in the USA at the time but it is actually FF4, not insulting anyones intelligence, just for anyone who might not know) But during Final Fantasy 4 at the end you find a hidden path (or dont) which leads to "Wyvern" the boss which guards it, theres some epic dialogue and then an epic boss fight (its easy but has a cool mechanic) and then you get Cecil's (the main character) best sword in the game the "Crystal Sword" Hylics 2 is all gloves all day, baby. The psychic gloves seem to be the "best in the game", but I actually made more use of the "One Glove"s, which make all spells for the wearer cost half will (except B-G)

You can also use Teledenuate to remove "Charged" off various enemies that use it. Not sure how useful this can be, but it definetely does feel good to mess up enemy turns like that.

I really enjoyed the feeling of playing something completely different, and I don't think I'll find anything quite like Hylics/Hylics 2 ever again.

One of the only complaints I have about this game is that it needed more content. Just a few areas around the beginning to whomp/get whomped on by enemies. I find it weird that you basically have to stop the entirety of your momentum of charging up the Hylem-Xylem and do the sage quest/labyrinth stuff. It felt like that could have been accessible before actually getting halfway up the tower, so your entire tower journey can be post-sage.

Honestly i had more trouble with regular enemies than i did with Gibby because some require micromanagment that can grow into issues if they're left alone. After the big battle i couldn't help but to think was that really it because i didn't die once during once i figured out he spends a lot of his turns trying to create minions. I agree with Mr. No One the game could benefit from more content i was thinking something like a new game plus but not exactly. Make enemies a bit harder and a little more plentiful on a second run but you keep your Will and Flesh.

I assume you've already played "Middens", "Gingiva" and "Where They Cremate The Roadkill" trilogy?

"I assume you've already played "Middens", "Gingiva" and "Where They Cremate The Roadkill" trilogy?"

Sorry to necro something so old but for the sake of discussion and to not be rude:

I have beaten Gingiva and have watched someone play gingiva and a small bit of the where the cremate the roadkill games. They are not as much what I am looking for. They are like full on arthouse, balls to the wall punk. not punkish. They are cool experiences but just a little too David Lynch if he made an rpg for me.

The other titles I consider to be in the same wheelhouse are things like "Space Funeral", "Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass", "Omori", "Lisa: the Painful", "Off", "Undertale", etc.

Hylics is probably on the far end of what I enjoy, but I do REALLY enjoy it. I think the other games you mentioned just (from the little I know) stray a little TOO far from convention to scratch the same itch. Hylics and Hylics 2 have solid rpg engines/ game logic at their core so they still work, while something like "Gingiva" has it's own logic that is not necessarily married to any game or rpg logic at all.

It's literally one of the most useful spells in the game. It's a dispel. Works on allies and enemies. You can teledenudate the bomelaug's tether homunculus. You can teledenudate the glommed status. It's great.

Psychic knuckles? I never came across those after three playthroughs. Where are they?

Thank you for uttering these sentences. This kind of gibberish is a big part what I love about Hylics, and it's sound advice to boot.
