Any reason to play the first game before Hylics 2?

Immediately purchased Hylics 2 after seeing the art style. Should I play them sequentially or does that not matter?

The story is linked so I would say play the first game then 2. You'll also be able to appreciate Hylics 2 a lot more and see all the awesome art from the original.

I wouldn't say it's necessary but the first game is so fantastic and so cheap that I'd strongly recommend to anyone

It is said that you don't need to, but i feel that having played the first one and having such an attachment to it made me appreciate 2 SO SO SO SO SO much more

Nah, you don't need to. Dive right into Hylics 2 an enjoy the visuals and music. The stories aren't much in either game.. even when you have an understanding of the "lore".

You don't have to per se. Hylics is and always was more about art than about story or gameplay. Still - Hylics 2 is a direct sequel to Hylics 1. Plus, the first one has it's own charm, different from second one. Also controls are not that confusing since it was on RPG maker;-)

The first game is about 2 hours long. The story isn't anything life-changing, but it's a little more enjoyable to jump into 2 having some memory of 1.
