From a gameplay impact I found the second pair of DLC characters not as well designed, their abilities need to be charged up, you hold down the paddle key until after the reflect move is completely charged. During that time you are not shooting, striking or reflecting. If you know the spawning waves very well you might be able to pull this off in time but during three playthroughs on different lighthouse levels I never found enough time to use the koi character's move.
In solo play if you time it right the teleport of the second character is definitely faster when trying to move from one side of the boat to the other and in theory it is able to reflect enemy bullets on the way.
The skill of the angler fish character makes you learn perfect reflects and when you do your reflected shot can hit multiple enemies. This is nice if you pull it off regularily.
Gaining a random trinket after each bossfight is, in my opinion, pretty strong, especially in multiplayer where you need to share resources or when you are able to reroll that trinket a few times with the new siren ship.
