Endlessly repelling crabster?

Just had a play of the demo but after repelling the crabster monster endlessly nothing seemed to happen. Does it eventually die? Was I doing something wrong?

Thanks. I was just hitting it with my oar (inflicting 5 dmg and it then swimming back underwater), which I guess wasn't a repel? I did try holding down an attack too. I guess I misread some dialogue on what I was meant to be doing.

You have to hold the attack button to charge up a reflection, then, when the crabster shoots a projectile, indicted by a circle on you ship, release the buttons as the projectile hits you, then it will bounce the projection the direction you are aming. Hit the crab with its own projectile a few times to get past this part.
