In terms of graphics: I am not very good at art, that's why I rely on models and not on textures; you might have noticed that there are almost no textures in the game, most blocks have fixed colors. So in terms of graphics I think the feel will be similar (more triangles rather than textures).
In terms of gameplay: Adro is very very different from ST EF 2, concentrating more on spaceship management, space sim things, inventory management, crafting, progression and looting rather than mostly fighting. However there are/will be many similarities, wreckages will be procedurally generated and will have hostile internal robots, there will still be first person fights when looting and the vibe will be space themed.
However, from very early on I added modding to the game to allow the community to build whatever experience they want, many things are modable including gametypes, missions, recipes, items, ships, blocks, models, textures and other things that can turn Adrorium into ST EF2. Also modding is very easy( json based).
The game has been public since 2017, download the playtest/demo to play it. The Steam release will come as soon as I get enough wishlist so not any time soon.
- Any ship that has no engines(but has weapons/shields) is considered a space station, buy a ship from station, move it into position, add a rocket launcher and remove the engine, now you have your own space station.
- For now there is no way in vanilla to buy a ship of a specific design(can only buy a 3x3 new ship) but you can spawn it from creative menu or make a easy mod that spawns your own station instead of the vanilla one.
- Workshop (for mods and ship designs) is on my list with medium priority.
I totally understand that, but I'll just mention that there are now AI tools that help with that. On the Unity asset store there are even assets that integrate texture generation into Unity, both using the APIs like Midjourney (probably some of them are a bit paid APIs now) and offline AI models which work locally.
I'm not saying that the game should necessarily have textures or something like that, I like the style as it is, just pointing out that the times have changed and the possibilities have greatly expanded.
(though I'd wish for the inventory grid to be straight lines or smth like that, so that the eye doesn't get distracted by it :D).
- I plan to redo the crafting ui next update but I have no good ideas for the item slots t the moment, if I will come up with something grid like I will see if it fits.
