Borderlands 4

Borderlands 4

2
Played all Borderlands series(in coop), my honest opinion.
I'll go in order of releases.
Borderlands 1 - pretty standart looter shooter game, it's fine, didn't finish it yet, but some controls are pretty raw(ofc bc of it's age i think).
Borderlands 2 - better controls, characters are really good, story is good. It was fun. completed all dlcs, overall great great.
Borderlands Presequel - I didn't like it(Mostly i think bc i played as claptrap) there were some great funny moments and jokes about main city named "concordia", but the problem we were not that interested in side quests, which lead to monsters overlvling us, making game really hard(a lot of deaths), but story was good and characters too.
Borderlands 3 - It was mid, it has upsides and downsides. Upsides i can say movement overall after getting used to is good. Selection of weapons is better too. Some characters are fine(played as FL4K). Downsides - Story quests are pure agony to complete, deaths of characters are really stupid. One of the strongest character died without giving even a fight, another got power taken like she's still a baby with lollipop. Also the series that got enemies that scale with your level instead of area level. The combat with selection of guns(and pets of FL4K) was the only thing that made it not completely awful.
Borderlands movie is bad, i didn't watched it, but my friend did and he loves borderlands series and still wants to forget this movie.
Also My friend tried to play new tales from borderlands. It was torture, he didn't like it at all and wanted to alt+F4 the whole time.
I don't expect Borderlands 4 to be any good at all, Characters are not lovable at all, Npcs look better than them, movement didn't change from bl3, and im afraid story will be the same as new tales, so what even good will be there? I can think only of nothing at all. Anyway. No go for me. Sorry. Anyway i hope rest of you will enjoy it. :)

BL1 was from 2009 and was built in UE3, so ... yeah, it'll show its age in the fidelity of the controls and the quality of the AI pathing and variety. It was a great game for its time. Worth playing to see where the franchise came from.

BL2 is probably my favorite of the franchise. It has the most content overall. I would say it's one of the best ARPGs ever made.

BL:TPS gets a bad wrap typically. It's a great game, but it has a lot less content than BL2 does. Difficulty is based on level disparity. BL2 had tons of extra content, so it was easy to stay at or above the main story mission you were working on. BL:TPS has much less overall content, so you really have to do everything to stay at-level. Under-the-hood, it's a better game than BL2, it's got a better, smoother leveling curve, it's got Cryo instead of Slag, it's got double jumping and Oxy kits, variable gravity, lasers. It's a great game, it just doesn't have enough total content to compete with BL2.

(And yeah, I'd say playing as Claptrap might not have been the best idea. Some people LOVE playing as Claptrap, but I couldn't stand it. Nisha, Athena and Willhelm are all more fun in my opinion).

BL3 was built in UE4, it's a big step up in technology. The environment has beautiful game-play and feels liquid-smooth. But all the writing staff was different, and they ret-conned a lot of stuff from the earlier games. Overall, the writing was a noticeable drop in quality. They were also way too generous with the loot tables, meaning that anything that wasn't at least purple was completely devalued by the time you hit level 2. If Legendaries are too easy to get, then they don't feel special.

Got no comment on the Movie, you can't really blame Gearbox for that, it wasn't as if they had much to do with it personally. That was an Embracer Group (and an Avi Arad) project. They wanted to replicate the success of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and the Suicide Squad franchise, and ... they just didn't really get what made those work. They should have stuck a LOT closer to the source material in my opinion. BL2 alone could have provided several scripts that could have been turned into successful movies.

What other half are you referring to?

From what I know I only skipped tales from borderlands. And it's not that important. Was watching my friend playing it and that's all
some important thing from tftb and debt or alive novel:
1.rhys brought down hyperion's helios space station to pandora with his omnistick thingy to stop ai jack's rise to power (and for some reason rhys' gang doesn't work with b1+b2hunters+crimson raiders to infiltrate helios. only scooter, who died making sure rhys gang's shuttle can reach helios)

2.rhys' gang, claptrap, zer0 and athena manage to defeat the traveller vault monster. rhys and fiona gets sucked in into its vault, and suddenly in b3 many years later rhys becomes atlas ceo reviving it from its downfall through mysterious means.

3.its revealed in debt or alive novel (set right after tftb and before b3), that the vault of the traveller contains some mysterious entity that disguise itself as claptrap (for lulz) and is capable to grant any wish within some vague limitations. rhys wished for some corpo documents that allow him to instantly become atlas ceo and rebuilt it. fiona accidentally wished sasha would be there with her (its dumb that sasha didn't enter the vault with fiona and rhys in the first place in tftb...

4.sasha wished for a limited edition typhoon vaultlander figure that both fiona and sasha try to sell in eden 5 to get rich quick and retire from life full of dangers such as vault hunting and conning people. but they ended up getting involved in the personal conflict between Gaige and countess holloway in eden 5 (Gaige's Deathtrap accidentally murder marcie the holloway snob bully daughter in high school before b2 because marcie shoved Gaige hard and almost crack Gaige's head open on hitting a table. countess holloway captured and killed Gaige's dad Mr. DiMartino offscreen in eden 5's debt prison)

5. eh, i'm too depressed in retelling the next details from debt or alive novel. the novel is very disappointing for fans of Gaige, fiona and sasha... mostly because Gaige had so many bad tragedies happening to her while none of the b1+b2 hunters+crimson raider casts are helping her with her eden 5 quest... and fiona+sasha make lots of dumb decisions compared to their better choices in tftb while rhys and vaughn are almost not relevant at all...

the debt or alive novel is written by anthony burch the og b2+b1.5+tftb writer with helps from ntftb writers... but i can safely say that anthony's writing skill had deteriorated significantly with many more plot holes (especially in the combat scenes where everybody forget the existence of digistruct shields), wasted plot potentials and characters making lots of dumb decisions compared to his better days of b2+b1.5+tftb era...

there's no hope that future b3+ era writing will ever match the more consistent and overall satisfying writing (still has many flaws) of b2+b1.5+tftb.

my best experience comes from borderlands 2 , i used to connect a projector to ps4 and play it with 2 of my friends with split screen on a big wall . it was fun , really fun.
bl4 characters are more like dustborn game anyway No go for me. Sorry. i hope rest of you will enjoy it. :)
I feel like i'm going to wait until more than a single short trailer is released before I form any opinions about the game. It's going to take a me a few minutes to block every half-wit sheep that re-posts the simpleton ♥♥♥♥ about the "no go" stuff though.
its your choice whether you want to enjoy b4 for the gameplay only (the safer + acceptable option), or you want to be masochist enjoying b4 story.

but to enjoy b3+ era writing, you can't deny that b3+ writing butchered many of classic characters' story continuities, so of course there's lot of distrust to gbx's b4 story pitching especially from fans who were attached to og classic era characters before b3.

Story is fluid. So long as it invokes emotion, it's doing it's job.

It's probably best we leave Tiny Tina and New Tales from the Borderlands out of this discussion and from future developments.

There was the BL2 DLC and the Telltale series because this is the correct timeline.

i had a feeling that in b4 there'll be somekind of plot points that require players to know some stuff about ntftb's story...

maybe tediore stuff won't exist anymore because it got bankrupt after trying to become the big bad evil in !tffb and failing... just like s&s from b1.

maybe there'll be something related to ntftb's indian space crystal mcguffin, gun that can isekai people, or some shards mcguffin related to the fionadotpeeengee cliffhanger at the end of ntftb...

eh, i dunno much about the rest of ntftb... like many other borderlands fans i'm not impressed by ntftb's new oc gallery and i can't gather enough enthusiasm to care about their relevances... and rhys is the only returning classic character that has important relevance to ntftb's plot (yes fionadotpeeengee at the end of ntftb cliffhanger is relevant too... but only as cliffhanger...) but rhys also doesn't care about his bff vaughn anymore like he completely forgot vaughn's existence(b3 vaughnhumanclaptrap in manchild diaper cape costume: BANDYT LYFE!!! MY KINGDOM OF OFFICE MONEY HACKER SUPERPOWER FOR BANDYT LYFEEEE!!!!)

this b3+ntftb story theme of friendship being degraded by time and not much contact with each other to the point the friends feel like they didn't acknowledge the existence of each other anymore... is this really a fun and engaging story theme for anyone? or gbx was just cutting corners and rushing b3+ story products that caused this story theme to appear more frequently since b3? who knows the answer. but jolly coop in friendshiplands doesn't seem to matter anymore since b3...
