I wonder what engine Borderlands 4 will be on.

I haven't found much info but it does certainly looks promising on terms of graphics and quality compared to BL3. But it seems like we are straying further from the look that made borderlands unique.

It looks to me like they're trying to be quick about the development horizon. That would lead me to suspect that it'll likely be done in UE4.

UE5 would be a step forward technologically, but I'm unclear how easy it would be to port over the existing assets and engine developments (or create new stuff to replace the older assets). So, I have to assume that switching to UE5 would add development time.

But that's all just speculation on my part.

I would however, suggest waiting for an actual press release from Gearbox/2K on the subject (or an interview in a major Journal with some/any of the actual devs).
