i'm already declaring b3 story as non canon long ago and advice all borderlands fans to just make+enjoy their own headcanons, ever since b3 writers dismissively disband b2 hunters and broke their bonds with the crimson raiders.
gaige being nerfed+censored hard+being turned into oversimp fangirl for humperlog and krieg's meat bicycle for 2 bond with maya being cancelled offscreen turning him into depressed hermit were the last straw that broke my trust in b3+ canon writing.
whatever returning characters they'll bring back in b4 are just impostor puppets being controlled to bow to the whims of b3+ style writing that betray their og oldskool characters' spirits.
But anyway— yeah please bring back DLC characters. B4 hunters look TRASH 💀
You may not like the way things goes.
But borderlands was never focused on stories and nobody actually cares, even as i played the first Borderlands on the PS3, the story was completely bland, the only enjoyable thing was co-operative gameplay, DLC characters added to the level of fun that exists in Borderlands 2 & Pre-Sequel, details and stories are not an importance.
They can be as cringe and complete garbage and i still could give jack about it.
Same goes with the characteristics of everything that has to do with the hunters.
I do not care how badly written the characters are.
I just want playable DLC characters.
Double-Body Lore already exists with Handsome Jack, they can easily do this with all the existing characters in their new games, there is absolutely no harm in doing this.
Further more is the endless customization possibilities.
maybe what you mean to say in the title is that you want some borderlands npc characters to be playable.
well i have offered suggestions in some other threads that b2 digistruct dlc and handsome jack ai body double had shown that borderlands universe's techs are capable of making ai simulacra hologram persona of any characters, regardless whether they're still living or dead. my suggestion is that they try following Tower of Fantasy's example, where you can recruit ai simulacra clones of other characters and use their weapon movesets or change your character into those simulacras instead. thus giving the feeling that you can play as npc and dlc characters regardess of story immersions. because i agree that at this point in b4 only very few fans would care about the story since b3 new writers messing up the continuity and expectations of returning fans.
or maybe they should put that idea in a borderlands spinoff game where you're offered huge flexibilities in customizing your custom character, even including the models of other npcs.
i'd already given up on enjoying borderlands canon since b3's total fubar on handling the stories especially the fates of classic pre b3 og borderlands characters. so i'd only care to play b4 or another new borderlands spinoff if gbx would care to add the feature i'd suggested above that we both wanted. and there are other borderlands fans too who missed the nostalgia of playing their favorite classic vault hunters and have the same wish as we both to be able to play those characters (and maybe other npcs too) in newer games.
Quit being so invested in this, it is not that deep.
I made this post because i want DLC characters returning.
Never said some, that is your wording again, could care less if they push all characters.
Opening up possibilities, borderlands never was catered to storytelling, it is about character playability, quit yapping about stories already.
Gearbox should be focusing on playability.
Nothing more than this whatsoever.
More like a side effect of Jack's incredible and unpredicted success in BL2.
People demanded more Jack, and so the Pre-Sequel with third rate minor bosses from BL2 upgraded to full vault hunters was born.
BL3 was a chance to finally do away with legacy characters, but Tales from Borderlands - and it's Catch-a-ride moment - happened, so there just had to be more Jack, more Lilith, more Ellie more Zero and, of course, Claptrap.
Well, at least Lilith and Krieg got a good send off this time, while Maya fared a little bit worse.
I'm of the minority on this forum who actually enjoyed the vast and varied worlds of BL3 and its DlC's, with Moxxy's heist being personal favorite, because - you guessed it! - it had even more Jack.
BL4 looks like its finally set up to clean the slate and keep all but a few of the old guard on the sidelines.
Guess we'll find out.
Hoping BL4 follows the same trend.
My favorite was the Pre-Sequel. Jack's ascent to power and descent into madness was very well done. Plus that killer dark-synth soundtrack was just soooo good.
And we all know the tragic fates of the PS cast, with Claptrap and the Doppelganger being the sole survivors. To this day, at least.
I rather they just put in a new cast for bl than keep dragging the old favorites in the mud.
