Yes, it is bland.
I have said this before, but the artwork is the same as BL3, the Vault Hunters look terrible, the choice of music is bad...it's just a really dull trailer. Doesn't even compare to BL2 trailers.
I thus hope the game has a good story and gameplay, that the vault hunters bodies can be customized like in BL3 and that its a success in the end.
i think its time that gbx should have add another option for full custom character creation aside from offering the usual 4 vanilla vault hunters options. they've already done it in ttwl and since they've hired volition crew that were veteran developers of this feature with the saints row games they should have considered this option for b4... or another spinoff like b1.5 at least, but please set it in the main 6 galaxies borderlands scifi universe rather than ttwl's universe that were just made to appeal dnd b2 dragon keep and pride audience... if you would even genuinely try hard to regain the trust of fans of classic borderlands characters you've destroyed since b3 gbx...
and the big problem with borderlands stories since b3 aren't just cause by irritating obnoxious main villains, ava and poor jokes. its also mainly caused by this noticeable sense of disconnection between the main casts and absent characters that logically and by fans popular demands should have been present and relevant to the main plotlines. the fact that b4 just bulldoze forward with the aftermath of b3+ntftb story ignoring all the plotholes and wasted potentials with many classic casts will just exacerbate the story problem more. especially with fans of classic characters.
They could delay this another 5 years and I wouldn't be upset.
Agreed.
Yea, same thoughts here, lads.
It looked boring. Everything did.
I thought the three antagonists featured in the BL3 trailer were pretty cool, and then I played the game.
In concept, Troy and Tyreen had potential. Then the game came out and we saw what they actually did. Troy had a sub-story that would have been cool, but was never realized. Tyreen, self-spoiled to the point of she was walking explosive diarrhea.
Yes I understand them and the writing and I still do not like them. Deal with it.
They look like Soulless Stuff directly ripped from the Asset Store. Like.. come on. Some of the Characters in the Trailer look awesome. And the Main Cast looks like a Joke in comparsion, and not a good one.
Ill be honest, if they stay like that in Game, i will just pass the Game.
Not because i purchase Games based on how the Characters look, but i fear that according to how the Main Cast looks, that they are a hard Cringefest. Basicly Borderlands 3 Villains but this Time as Main Cast.
Please no.
Then in Concord and others I became witness to the "modern character design" that looks about as competent as someone going to an AI art generator and hitting Refresh until they finally get ones with the appropriate number of limbs.
I have no desire to play those characters.
And then I see it in everything.
...I hate it.
Especially bad because, when you look at Borderlands 1 and 2, the Character Design was very much on Point, and not only with the Main Cast.
You could instantly indentify the Characters and differentiate them from each other.
You could also tell whos who and what one probably does and what not.
Roland, the Soldier who plays with ARs and some Tactical stuff.
Brick the Meatslab for the rough stuff and for very close love towards Enemies.
Mordecai the Sniper.
Lilith the Technical Class with a lot of cool and fast Stuff due to her low Health pool.
Same goes for Borderlands 2 with Axton, Salvador, Maya and Zero.
Unique, cool, divers and interesting Characters that not only define themself through their Class, but also through their Looks and act accordingly.
It just feels right. It has this certain Coolness Factor, watching Salvador Gunzerking into an Outpost throwing around Enemies meanwhile you as Axton keep Distance and place your Turret at Strategical Important Points and Support other Players and Maya phasing in and out and leaving total Chaos.
Well, and then theres Krieg. Kriegs just cool.
Borderlands 3 was already a rough Game. While the Gunplay itself was a HUGE improvement over previous Games. The Story and especially Characters were very weak.
I mean, compare the entire Cast of Borderlands 3 to the entire cast of Borderlands 2 or also 1.
General Knoxx, what a great Villain.
Dr. Ned, not to be confused with Dr. Zed who are also totally not related with each other.
Mad Moxxi.
TK Baja.
9 Toes, just a Miniboss, but damn, what a strange but funny Intro and Side-Story Character, haha.
Handsom Jack, i think i dont need to say anymore.
MR. TOURGE! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!
Tiny Tina.
Her entire freaking DLC, WAS . EPIC!
Overall, the Characters of BL1 and BL2 were Awesome and interesting.
Meanwhile, the Twins in BL3, i dont even remember their Names.
I dont remember ANY Character from BL3. They were all quite forgetable.
The only thing i remember was that i had at some Point a Toilet Quest, that wasnt very Funny and the Joke itself was gone within Minutes, but the Quest kept on going and going.
What BL3 improved in Gunplay, did it lack in the Story telling department and Character design.
And now im looking at the BL4 Trailer, and.. well. it doesnt look better at all. partially even worse.
Ill wait for the Reviews and will see. But considering the current times, like you already said, the shift in Character Design from quirky, unique and cool to .. whatever the Hell is going on currently. Im very certain how this will end and i probably will just avoid this Game alltogether or maybe get in with a hefty Discount.
Good thing is. I have BL1 and 2. And i can still replay them as often as i want.
I even have BL1 on CD, so nobody can shut down the License, given, Gearbox maybe one day has the same Idea as Ubisoft had with "The Crew".
One can only hope that im wrong and BL4 will be back with its original Strengths. With good Story telling and good Characters. But we will see.
sure we can speculate but until we know more how about not spamming the forum with these topics?
Doesn't anyone want to discuss what they hope to see gameplay wise?
Secondly, Its a huge part of the Gameplay. And so far, Gearbox showed like zero Gameplay aside of very worrysome stuff.
5€ that there will be a Jump and Run Level which was exclusively made to show the Grapplehook feature where you have to Jump back and forth and backtrack a lot to open Doors and Jump over big Pits and also get attacked while jumping across the Pits.
Thats how Boring and predictive i think the Game will be.
Aside from mostly boring Characters. a Copy Paste Mealstrom Faction, awfule Main Cast and the same Loot Issue as BL3 i saw nothing except the Grapple hook which means it probably will be a very important aspect.
Atleast as important as the Eridium Mechanic as in BL2. Where Gearbox and the Game itself make a big fuzz about it, yet everyone ignores it or even worse, is annoyed by it.
Is that the kind of Stuff you wanted to hear?
I wish, Borderlands 2 but with Gunplay from Borderlands 3.
Boom, awesome Game. Thank me later Gearbox.
I'm not hoping for a failure I'd like for borderlands to be fun and challenging again, though I expect this to be mid at best.
