I’ve never been so disappointed by a trailer in my life.
After watching it, I completely lost hope for Borderlands 4. There’s nothing interesting in the trailer, the world looks so generic and empty. And the vault hunters? They look like generic NPCs.

Only way this will change is if people dont buy the game at least not until it's on sale
I'm still holding onto the hope that these four are joke VHs that die within the first five minutes like a twist on The Other Guys and we get to meet the real badasses to play, because this group looks more like they're waiting for a bus home than to go find a Vault.
I hope to God, that these people will make the sensible decision to just Remake/Remaster Borderlands 2 with the gameplay improvements of later entries.

BL3 was a disaster, Tinas was meh (from what I heard), & the trailer for 4 made me lose any hope of a comeback.

I agree, but we both know we are stuck with these stupid looking vh characters.

Honestly I'm just hoping cosmetics can completely change the look of the character to something a bit more bad ass looking, than just trying to be hipster cool.
this is why i was hoping gbx would just add custom character system beside the option of choosing the 4 unique b4 hunters. since gbx had recruited remnants of volition crew who were experienced in designing custom character system from their saints row games (if we exclude the horrible sr reboot's story, messaging and super buggy launch state...)

but i have certain feeling that gbx would stubbornly stick to their 4 vanilla vault hunter formula regardless of the numerous negative feedbacks with b4 hunters designs. they already want to release b4 in 2025 so its most likely they'll ditch the optional custom character system that they could have refined from ttwl and saints row games to give more options to players (especially players who don't care about the story anymore and just want to play with classic vault hunters).

Borderlands to me has been a story driven looter/shooter. Having dedicated Vault Hunters with established backstories, which includes unique dialogue and echos throughout the game, supports that design. Having Vault Hunters be fully customize-able, as opposed to specializing a specific character, would (in my opinion) lean into forgetting about story and only going into the mechanical side. That would be a big disappointment for me if they just made another generic pew pew game.
what i mean is that let the 4 unique vault hunters with their unique personalities and stories be playable and customizable to certain extents as usual, but also add side option to make our own custom character with several personality templates to choose from. kinda like koei's dynasty/samurai warriors games especially the empires spinoff where unique characters and custom characters have their own personalities and story options.

even in the saints row games (before saints row reboot) the story and dialogue options for our custom playa character with different personality templates feels very detailed and immersive for a gta-ish game series. volition crew had that experience. so they and gbx are definitely capable of putting that idea for b4 or another spinoff like b1.5... only if they want to of course...

win win for everyone. whether they want the usual borderlands gameplay with (sigh) b3+ era story, or they just want to enjoy the usual borderlands gameplay without dealing with the story and dialogues, or they just want to play with classic vault hunters even if its just through custom character lookalike creation system.

Asking the devs of this is likely more than they are capable of.
Only win win if we can regain quality of pre-BL3 story, writing, character development, etc.

If I wanted pew pew without dealing with story, I would go play Galaga or Space Invaders. That is just my perspective, so speaking to what I want in a game.

Customizable along side the designed Vault Hunters? Hmm...honestly don't know how I feel about that. My fear would be A.I quality in story, echos, etc. that would feel too generic.

luckily for us, your hope doesn't affect anything BL4 related. my suggestion? stop dooming and enjoy the hype train for BL4.

which BL2 trailer? there are many.

to be fair, BL2 was doing a new thing. a sequel.
BL4 is simply the next Borderlands game. We know the drill.

i still don't know why you're dooming so hard. BL4 is going to be awesome.

BL2's marketing campaign was a bit more lively and interesting than BL4's so far. Then there was this:

So unless something like that drops the hype level from the existing trailer is still going to be hovering around "Wait, those are the VHs?"
