Viy doesnt go to the graveyard. It gets consumed then goes back into the deck.
NG and NR can use Ihurraquax to pull it onto the board and lock it with an Order: Lock card or a leader ability so it'll go to the graveyard if consumed or the round ends. However, if the Viy player has a purify unit, they can counter this technique.
SK can use Kambi to force the Viy player to discard their right-most card, which is useful after they play Matta Hu'uri. BUT this is only guaranteed if they've already used their scenario and Oneiromancy, otherwise Matta will pull one of those rather than Viy. Worst case, you've eliminated Oneiro or Haunt from their hand.
SK also has the Dire Bear / Yrden combo to win a single round (force the Viy player to put all their consume units on a single row that you can reset).
As soon as people play it they consume it. You cant lock during their turn.
I get that; I've been facing them a lot with my NG lockdown deck -- they don't have anything able to consume it immediately.
It's something that does need to be addressed, imo, as it IS unbalanced. However, most of the time (usually playing NG lockdown or Syndicate), I tend to win -- barring bad rng in my draws / mulligans.
I've gotten to where I don't give gg's to Viy players, as it's too easy to play poorly and still be successful. Won't use it, myself, even though I have him, for the same reason (when I run MO, I've been going Wererat or Idarran + Beast). Hopefully it does get addressed, at some point.
I assume that Viy will be patched down (presumably soon). Maybe I should run it just so I will have done it while it was a thing lol.
So far when I have run into it the player mostly knew what they were doing and it didnt really sit on the board.
